Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A very appealing dark plumy colour with a caramel head; but that was the best bit about it; fruity sweet aroma; fruity flavour but with an edge of burnt malt; and a rather dry finish. Looks like a great mild, but that’s all ther is too it - the taste misses by a mile.

Feb 21, 2010 Lightly smoky nail polish remover on the aroma. In the mouth it is roasty and sweet with a milky texture lightly perfumed and very sticky. A finish of sweet caramel and light bitterness.

Lovely looking, garnet black with a fine light tan head. Aroma is of caramel, toffee and a hint of smoke. Flavour is molasses, some coffee and even a touch of tar. Mouthfeel is thin and a little disappointing.

Jan 2, 2009 Cask at the Duke of Wellington, Norwich, "Boxing Day Expedition" crawl, 26th Dec 08. Very dark brown, line of head. Lovely flavour - bitter chocolate, dark fruits, caramel sweetness and dry roastiness. Even some smokiness. The caramel in particular comes through on the nose. Smooth, good stuff.

Sep 22, 2008 on cask @ Wenlock Arms (London). What’s with the low ratings of this? This is a fine mild! Deep clear mahogany with a long-lasting creamy beige head. Deep roast aroma, a hint of treacle, coffee and tobacco, slightly acidic - really caught my attention. The taste delivers, perhaps a little thin and weaker in malt (and undertones) than what my nose detected, but the (acidic) flavour stuck around quite a while. Average-bodied for a mild, soft, acidic of course, with a slightly carbonized linger. I WAS left with an overall impression of "slightly like dishwater" for some reason; still quite nice.

Jul 23, 2008 Cask at Kent Beer Festival, Canterbury: Good example of a mild, aroma of roasted malt and this follws through in the flavour, with a little carmale thrown in there as well. Pretty good stuff.

May 19, 2008 Half pint, cask version hand pulled at Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. See-through, dark brown body with only some dimples at the surface. Toffee-like aroma. The flavour is dominated by soft caramel sweetness offset by hints of apples. Flat palate, but still a rather well made Mild ale (04.05.2008).
