Draught at Breukelen Bier Merchants NYC. Pours brown clear some lace after a dissipating head. Aroma is delicious smoke, bbq spice, light red fruit. Flavor is a perfect balance of those over moderate sweetness and bitterness. The finish is woody and smoky. The feel is lively, dense full and heavy. Super awesome.

On tap at Churchkey. Poured crimson red with small beige head which dissapates quickly. Aroma is nice smoke, little lacing, light body, and low carbonation. Taste is nice smoke and some meat. Not a lot a flavor, but quality and enjoyable. I remember liking Aecht Weizen better.

Keg at Euston Tap. Easy drinkable beer despite the smokeyness and the dark brown color. Body is thin and mauthfeel is dry. Lightly hoppy and smoky nose. Palate is pleasant with a strong smoked finish. A bit weak and disappointing given the high rating.

Tap: Poured a clear light maple color ale with a small foamy head with average retention. Aroma consists of smoked malt with light woody notes and floral undertones. Taste is dominated by easy drinking notes of smoked malt with light wood notes and floral undertones. Body is full with somewhat of a fat mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Great mix between complexity and drinkability.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nocturne (391) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAY 11, 2013
Keg at PSBH, Manchester. Hazy brownish red shade with an off-white head. Very punchy smoke factor in the aroma at first; just like smoked sausage. Sadly it doesn’t last all the way through the glass. Higher carbonation than I expected and just about winning the battle to stay above lightness of body. Very tasty and well done smokiness but on this evidence I don’t really see why it ranks top for its style.

Draught @ The White Horse on Parsons Green. The pour’s deep ruddy reddish brown with a small head. The nose is of honey glazed smoked ham. Donut. Rich but not overpowering smokey accents. The taste is more of the same. Rich, nutty malts. Rustic smoked ham. Sweet bakery bread and light chocolate. Wonderfully smooth, well-rounded stuff. Nice and creamy on the palate. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, smoked beers aren’t really my thing, but it’s impossible to fault this. Great.

On tap at Tørst with Max, Ramy, GT & Whitney, Podey, and maybe some others later. Pours a clear amber brown with a medium sized beige head. Lovely campfire on the nose, crisp malt behind it. Medium bodied, smooth malt, a bit of sweetness, some caramel notes. Not the omnipresent smoke that permeates many of their beers, this is much easier and subtler. Gentle smoke lingers on the finish. Lovely stuff.
