Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Nice amber beer with quite a bit of yeast on the nose and palate. Grass hops. Bred and hay malt. Light bitterness which is noticed in the finish. Fairly light bodied with lively carbonation. Really drinkeable.

Pours a deep amber color with a beige head. Biscuity, malty, caramel, nut, apricot, and spice in the nose. The taste is nutty, followed by light fruits, hops, citrus, and grass. Decent lacing, thin, and smooth palate.

Hazel brown pour with small head. Aroma of old beer, sugar, burned caramel, watery and slightly fowl. Watery, sugary flavour, malts and faint hops. Seems old and dead.

Bottle at home, thanks dEnk! Pours a beautiful clear orange color with a this white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet malts, sugar and some artificial fruits. Flavor is watery bitter, a bit like a pub ale. Bitter finish. Not really my thing.

Bottle. I haven’t had this in a long time. Floral, malty aroma. Spicy and crisp, malty, sweet, warming. Very carbonated. Refreshing more than tasty maybe. Still, an old favorite with a lot of good memories.

Pours clear light-amber, with a medium beige head, fine and lasting lacing. Aromas of biscuit, caramel, apricot, nuts and grass. Light body, creamy, crisp and smooth. Nutty caramel flavor, lightly sweet, with fruity and biscuit notes, medium bitter earthy finish. Like a hopped-up cross between a Marzen and an Amber Ale. Very well balanced and drinkable.

Pours amber with a light frothy head. Really carbonated and refreshing however could use more flavor in my opinion. Enjoyed a sixer over the weekend during ski weekend in Killington, VT

This is an oldie but greatie in my book. Fell in love with this on recommendation by Leafs93. May have been my first micro/craft. This beer is my favorite after a long day of yardwork. Has a great hoppy aroma. Pours an amber orange haze. Medium to light body. Little lacing. Bitter, cream caramel taste. Its funny, I used to think this beer was extremely bitter before venturing into some of higher IBU IPAs. Love this beer.
