Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Nice thick head, amber color. Hopy, matly, clear presence of barley and rye. Notice a subtle traces of spices, fruity (orange) and caramel. Thick on the palate. A great beer, get it while it’s on tour!

12 oz bottle pours clear orange with tan head. Rich sweet caramel aroma with hints of rye and pine. Very sweet dark sugar taste with a nice mild bitter flavor. Light carb and rich buttery feel.

draft at redlight redlight. pours a pretty interesting color. kind of a weird orange/amber. hoppy nose with some grapefruit and resin but also a good caramel malt aspect. pretty bitter. nice bold hop aspect in the flavor. even a little sweet with a definite booziness in the finish. the rye pale is a decent session beer but this is definitely more my speed. bigger, bolder, more complex. not a bad double ipa.

Trade with Smith4498. Awesome aroma of caramel, rye, spices, bread. The appearance is an attractive hazy reddish orange, off-white head. The flavor is caramel, brown sugar, citrus, rye, bread. The finish is an enduring citrus hoppiness. The mouthfeel is creamy, full-bodied, like an IIPA. Beautiful beer. Thanks, Jason. not having access to Terrapin up here, I had no idea what I was missing.

2010 bottle.Different recipe this year I see.Pours a cloudy dark amber with a semi fluffy off white head.Nose is Terrapin hops with a little toasted malt.Drinks great as usual with a very balanced and well rounded hop to malt ratio. This is the smoothest rye squared I’ve sampled but not the best.Still a classic though and I’ll drink plenty this spring.

Draft at Taco Mac. Copper. Shiny. Mellow aroma. But gives off a spectacularly gripping citric hoppiness over the top of a killer caramel base. Beauty. (#3857, 2/25/2010)

12oz Bottle from TW. Pours a hazy apple cider looking color with just a thin layer of film. Spicy aroma, caramel, rye, sugar, and quite hoppy and complex.. Medium bodied and syrupy. Flavor is Barley Wine like. Strong malts that have a sweet honey like flavor. Some alcohol detected also. Overall a decent quality beer. Abv sneaks up on you.

Appearance: Pours a hazy copper with a nearly subsided white head. Not a lot of visible carbonation, and leaves webby lacing. Aroma: Citrus, honey dew melon, pine. Taste: Pine, earthy rye malt, brown sugar Mouthfeel: Thick, almost chewy. Overall: A really flavorful awesome Imperial Pale Ale. Tons of character and depth and really tasty.
