Commercial Description:
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Pitch black with frothy dark brown head that disappears quickly. Cocoa and raisin nose. Tastes of sour chocolate. I was a little disappointed in this one.

Pours thick and dark as night. A thin layer of fine tan bubbles floats on top. Aromas of fine dark chocolate, coffee, graham crackers and roasted malt. Velvety texture and full bodied. Finishes a bit dry for an Imperial. Overall a good stout but there are better out there for sure.

Bottle. Black with tan head that thins. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet milk chocolate, burnt cocoa, light nuttiness and faint coffee. Taste is burnt chocolate that turns bitter at back end, also has lots of roastedness. Heavy bodied with medium carbonation.

Heavy brandy liquor aroma. Dark grapes and port wine; pungent dates. Mildly roasted. Heavy alcohol. Intense. Borderline gasoline / nail polish. Appears pitch black motor oil and red brown at the edges. Almost no head / lace. But that color .... totally opaque. The flavor is roasted, nutty stout malts. Burnt cookies and brandy at the swallow. Barley mash and grape as it warms up. Also, that fatty "umami" quality; salty soy sauce. Metallic and very dark. Raisins, hay, maple, vanilla. Feels oily but with a twinge, like licking a battery. Severely burnt finish. Overall it’s bark (aroma) is somewhat stronger than its bite (flavor). Bold, intense aromas and flavors. It’s very good, and significantly better once it warms up and mellows out.

An bottle cellared for three years or so. Dark as night with a head of deep tan. The nose is strong and ruddy; full of boozy sweetness and hints of latent depth. Smooth as anything with rich, long chocolate taking hold. Hints of coffee and toffee, a light smokiness. Complex and exciting.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks zvikar. Black-colored with a light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and some smoke. Sweet flavor with chocolate, roasted malt, some light fruitiness and burnt wood hints. Medium to full body. Very drinkable for its strength.

At a tasting, thanks Zvikar, small creamy brown head, opaque dark brown to black colour, aromas of light roasted coffee and some hops, flavours of toasted bread, coffee, smoked wood and a hint of fermented soya beans. light coffeish aftertaste, smooth but a touch light,
