After ordering this beer in Puebla, Mexico, and noticing how light it was, I just assumed it would be a horrible drink like Sol or Corona, but when I tasted it I was impressed. It pours very well and the appearance is very pale, almost clear, but has a surprisingly smooth flavor. If you want an alternative to the typical Mexican light beers, this is a good choice.

Pours a clear gold w next to no head. Nose Is a very small amount of hay like malt, some sweet corn/vegetal notes, soda water. Flavor is a corny soda water not much else. Very highly carbonated

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. I drank this one while roaming around Progresso. It pours a pale yellow with a foamy white head that falls into nothingness rather quickly. The nose is corn and skunk. The flavor follows suit. Hey, at least it is cold. As bad as it is, it isn’t as bad as some of the other Modelo crew. Unfortunately in some cases that really isn’t saying much. Avoid this one like the plague.

Served from a 12 oz bottle while in Huatalco, Mexico on the honeymoon cruise. The appearance a bottle since there were no glasses. The aromas and flavors are pilsner malts with a good bitterness. A little fuller with flavors then a lot of Mexican’s macros.

Bottle. According to Michael Jackson Corono is the worst beer in the world. I suppose he didn’t drink the Montejo, another Modelo-beer (or a bad beer, it’s nearly synonymous). The Montejo has a clear, light golden colour, is light bubbling with a medium white head, not lacing at all and disappearing fast (what’s new with a Modelo beer?). It looks like an English pale ale, but this is also the most positive about this beer. The smell? There is no smell. The taste? There is no taste. Or is water a taste? In that case even water tastes better. Although I have to say that the beer doesn’t have a bad taste, hust because there is no taste in it. Now I know why some beers are being served with a slice of lemon in the bottle, this one can use it certainly, if only to have a taste.

Okay, it’s official... Grupo Modelo must run the country of Mexico, as they brew a million different styles of beer.... and each one tastes so much more like the one before it. This should be my last offering in Cancun to report on. It pours a clear golden into the glass, with a wispy head that diminishes to nothing.... no real lace. The nose is of lemons and plastic. The flavors are much like others; macro corn notes throughout a metallic twinge. The finish on this one is less pronounced, as it seems to close more on a sweet (corn, but honestly not terrible) note vs. the traditional musty, underdeveloped hop that is Grupo Modelo. The mouthfeel is thin and slick. All-in-all, it’s another mass-produced pale lager that gets completely covered up by all of the other offerings from the same brewer. If I’ve had this one, I seem to feel I’ve probably had them all.

Clear coloured body with a very thin white head. Aroma of metal, lemons, salt and cardboard. Light-bodied; Sharp flavoured metal tastes along with cardboard, malt and a super small amount of hops. Overall, about the same mexican lager as the others, nothing too special from this one. I sampled this 355 mL bottle purchased from LObby LOunge in the Sheraton Centro Historico in Ciudad de Mexico (Mexico City), Mexico on Cinco de Mayo, 2007.

Clear golden with tiny off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with caramel notes. Flavour likewise with a sweet finish.
