Commercial Description:
Named after a precious for of quartz indigenous to only Morgan Hill, California, this classic dark ale is smooth and refreshing. Its dark color results from the use of caramel, higher kilned dark crystal and chocolate malt. The beer’s flavor is malty and fruity with a subtle roastiness. To finish Poppy Jasper is generously hopped with Galena, Cascade and Liberty hops for a perfectly balanced wonderfully complex character. Winner of the 1995 California Beer Festival Gold Medal; 1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal.

Moderate hop level. Very clean and smooth. Nothing bitter in the taste. Very slight hint of malt/smoke taste. One of the best examples of the style

One of my favorite beers. It has a flavor that is distinct among amber ales. The hops level is just right, and does not become overpowering if you're eating while enjoying this brew. It has a lovely deep caramel color.

I had this beer at a bar in San Francisco, it was hoppy and flavorful and I ordered a third. I really enjoyed it.

Tap. Pours a medium amber with light head with light retention. Slightly fruity, sweet aroma. Flavors reminiscent of iced tea and almost a tiny hint of vanilla ice cream (but not so much as to make it like a flavored brew). Medium body & carbonation.

This is a good beer to sit with. Very good presentation with a copper head, mild aromas of malt and vine, with a surprising and explosive flavor of apples, carmel. This finishes long and bitter. One of the smaller but better breweries in Central/Northern California.

Amber orange with tan head not much lace toasted honey grains and caramel. Good carbonation great balance nice flavors. Starts out sweet with a touch of sour and dry at the end. Gold medal at GABF. Delicious.

Nice yeast and grapefruit aroma. Good reddish brown color. A fruity bouquet of flavors + a hint of cloves. Pleasant bitterness coupled with a good mouth feel. Nice finish. All these make a pretty damn good ale.
