Commercial Description:
This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.
Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

Deep copper body with off-white head that dissipated pretty fast. You can tell they were going for an American style IIPA with the hop bite, but there were malt overtones also. Interesting beer – had a strange lingering bitter aftertaste. I liked it ok, but will age the other bottle I have for awhile.

Bought at Holiday Wine Cellar for 8.99. Possibly the last bottle, so I was happy to get it. Orange amber color. Served toward the cold side, fresh out of the fridge. A hint of oxidation in the aroma, but overpowered by lots of grassy hops. Well balanced melanoidin malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A hint of medicinal taste, which is acceptable for a huge hoppy beer like this. Probably 0.2 points better fresh without the cardboard. Melanoidin malts work excellently with IPAs. Very well done. Reminds me of Sleighor IPA a little. A pleasure to smell. I wonder if I’m a hop head? I’ve been enjoying IIPAs a lot lately.

Pours a darkish amber with a thick off white head. Caramel malt, hops, and sweet fruit in the nose. Flavor is similar, lots of piney hops kicking in as well as some orange and grapefruit citrus. Finishes bitter, slightly syrupy. This is an interesting take on an IIPA Calm yet fresh but still bitter and bursting with flavor. Good brew.

Bottle: Caramel in color, dirty and hazy, somewhat muddy, large foamy off-white head, sticky lacing.   Looks pretty tasty!   Hoppy nose, quite earthy, mild sweetness, some caramel malt perhaps.   Smells fairly good.   Good hop presense on the tongue.   Quickly shows itself but its then held back by a fairly decent semi-sweet caramelish malt base.   Slight citrus rind as well.   This one is a quasi IIPA as it seems to have some Barley Wine characteristics.   Welcome change from most of the West Coast hop sided IIPAs.   It certainly satisfies my hop craving I have had for the past week.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   While its got a good malt base its not as sticky or thick as I would have thought.   I suppose any thicker and it really would be a Barley Wine.   Lingering hop goodness, sweetened citrus rind as well.   Pretty happy with this one.   Expensive, but worth a try for sure.

Mmm tasty beer. Pours an amber/orange with silky off-white head. Loads of sweet caramel malt, tropical fruit, resinous hops, citrus, lemon peel, and grapefruit. Floral, piney, and very bitter. Excellent IIPA.

A thin and slowly receding head is off-white/light beige. The body is hazy amber orange. Overall this is fairly standard but appealing. The nose is boldly citric, grapefruit dominating. Orange, pine, sugar and hints of guava jam highlight the majority of the remainder. There is a signifigant amount of moderately toasted grains and caramel with an artificial twang. The aroma, overall, is average but very enjoyable and easygoing. Astringency is mild in the flavor, thankfully - aroma indicated it could go either way. Hops are medium-high strength and vary in potency and varietal expression throughout each sip. Lightly caramelized and toasty malts linger in a spicy hoppy finish. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, heavily but evenly carbonated and relatively smooth. An enjoyable and admirable interpretation.

Thanks JMFG. Pours a deep amber color, with glints of orange. Aroma is resinous and floral. Hints of grass, and a slight malt component. Flavor is intense. Full hops, with a hint of malty sweetness, knocked to the side by a hoppy and bitter finish.

Bottle: Simple aroma of grapefruit and caramel with some faint fruit. It pours a dark hazy amber with a small white head. The flavor starts with tropical fruits and caramel. It finishes with an aged citrus hoppiness and slight oxidation. Medium-bodied with a soft carbonation.
