Now, I am pleasantly surprised. Deep gold, cloudy, but not quite as much as most Hefe's. Flavor is intense. Much more so than your run-of-the-mill German Lager. Almost buttery. Finish on the bitter side, but is quite dry and refreshing. shrubber85 (3233), Wallhalben, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Sweet fresh malt flavor then buttery and slight sweetness. Moderate hops finish. An unusual Landbier. Schroppfy (1821), Ohio, USA

I like this style a lot -- it provides a real change of pace. henrikb (1311), Aarhus, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Draft - Hazy deep golden body, a little very fine sparkle, big white head leaving thick, thick laces; Deep nose with lots of both malt and yeast in very fine balance, when it warms ripe yellow fruits are present as well, the hop aint really there though; Fine a little sharp carbonation on soft textured body, balanced, bitter; Long finish with lots of aroma, malt is very clear, spicy hop is well hidden. Great drinkable beer, malty deep and still very fresh. Much better when it has had some time to warm in the glass! Theis (4263), Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Jan 16, 2010 Pours a reddish, orange-gold with mid-sized, quickly dissipating head. Excellent hops flavor with some tangy, citrusy notes in the mix. Dry, bitter finish. This one’s a keeper. CanIHave4Beers (1066), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Pours with a nice big head and good lace, the color is a hazy golden with plenty of floaties. The aroma is slightly vinous, yeasty, and a little musty, with some fresh cut hay/bright semi grainy malt, and some mild hops. The flavor starts with a zing of lemon zest and is largely earthy with more of that mildly grainy maltiness terribly well balanced with a nice hop bitterness, earthy and yeasty flavors play in quite a bit as well. I enjoyed this one very much. wabeer (2), USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2007 500ml / 16.9oz Bottle with cryptic date code 1807
Center poured into 20oz Nonic (yeah yeah, it’s not a German glass...)
Aroma:
prevalent complex bready malt sharply punctuated by intensely perfumed bitter floral hop aromas, prominent citrus (orange?) notes, light notes of yeast
Appearance:
Pours slightly cloudy, interesting orangey / light copper color, rich head with decent retention that dissipates completely after a short time
Flavor:
Biscuity malt and noble hop flavors interplay expertly on the palate in this deliciously complex Kellerbier, light toasted malt and mineral notes with some vegetal / herby flavors in the background, very nice hop bitterness in the finish, which is fairly dry.
Mouthfeel:
Crisp lager profile, with a subtle creaminess showing a hint of more depth. Thirst quenching and refreshing like many other lagers, but with a lot more interesting malt profile, this example was high in carbonation due to the bottle conditioning; unbunged beers are typically lowwe carbonation. Carbonation dissipated rather quickly near the end of the glass, compared.
Overall:
Overall a wonderfully put together beer, This is a fine example of the Ungespundet style, highly drinkable and great for summer or any labor which requires a thirst quenching lager. Pleasant bitterness and good malt depth combined with excellent drinkability leaves one wanting another.
