Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Has a amber brown body with a medium off whit head. Flavoe is more akin to a dunkel than a wheat beerwith a small amount of straw noticable in the palate. Peppercorn taste up front finishing with a bit of lemon. Makes for a better summer ale than winter.

Sweet hop malt aroma. Clear brown colour with good head and lacing. Swet malt flavour. Fizzy palate.

A little sweeter than a lager, and a little more crispness of hops, stronger presence than shiner lager, almost bock like flavor. It was not as smooth as I expected from other dunkelweizens I have tried. Also there was the Shiner overtone which I find just a bit objectionable.

This one reminded me of other winter ales I’ve had, such as samuel adams winter ale. It has a noticable hoppy flavor with overtones of grapefruit.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear, dark brown with an orange glow and a creamy, beige head. Medium-bodied with some caramel sweetness and lightly burned accents. There really ain’t much wheat in this - reminds me mostly of a Dunkel. 170406

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of toasted malt, mollasses, burnt carmel and light plum. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of toasted malt and carmel with a crisp clean finish.

Chestnut color w. very little aroma. Nice roast maltiness and a burnt caramel character.

A hazy red beer with a lazing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with very strong notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet, but quite light with notes of wheat and caramel, leading to a dry wheaty end. The body is thin.
