Flavour starts semi-sweet wiht nice roasted malts before turning somewhat bitter from the hops. Smooth and full but I prefer lighter hops and more malt body in my brown ales. jfm (1698), Holbæk, Denmark

Aroma of toffee, sweet caramel, hint of raisins. Taste is lightly toasted, notes of walnuts, brown sugar, and some citric floral hoppiness in the finish. Medium bodied with medium/high carbonation. Good, but I don’t think it’s 84%tile good. JensenTaster (1668), Denmark

But I can see why this is very popular. It´s nothing special, nut-brown color, nose of dark malts, and a small hopping in the end. It´s just that I can´t put my finger on anything special; a good mainstreemer. JB175 (1665), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 16, 2006 Very dark brown with a nutty-sweet aroma. Taste was less than great, possibly due to my heavy eating prior to this beer. Sweet, chocolatish malts were OK. This beer was too "in between" for me - I’d prefer either an amber or a nice stout, but not this half-breed that isn’t all that special. Headbanger (1646), Aurora, Illinois, USA

A medium bodied brew with a malt, chocolate, hops, and a sweetness to it. I agree with some of the other reviews I think it is too sweet but a great tasting brown. asheft (1645), Marburg, Germany

Clear, orangish-brown with a filmy tan head and a nice ring. Candy/oxidized aroma with plum and tobacco notes and some fruit--apple(?). Raisiny tobacco flavour with a little bit of toasted malt and toffee. Also a blend of bittering from dark malts and hops gave a nutty, sherry-like finish. Light body and medium carbonation. Very nice.
