| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2010 Nice pour with a nearly black body and a full, tan, creamy, pillowy head which settles in time to a thin layer of froth and some tight lace rings. The nose is okay with buttered dark breads, some apple skins, bakers’ chocolate, and hints at bitter roast and toasted caramel. Flavor is nice with rich chocolates, bakers’ chocolate, buttery dark breads, almost raisin-like, lightly caramelly, and lightly roasty. The palate is fitting for the style with a medium to full, creamy, nearly lively. Finishes with still plenty of chocolate tones, more bitter from the chocolates and roast, and some buttery notes that linger. Actually fairly nice for an English beer, which I am not too fond of. Nice rich malt tones, very drinkable, and nice palate. Very pleasing.
