Commercial Description:
A big Hazelnut Brown Ale with a warm, nutty, toffee-like flavor. A wonderful winter warmer to enjoy with friends during the holiday seasons. A wildly big strong ale we call the Big Shot.

Poured a dark brown amber color with a small, off white head that left a fair amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, wet cardboard, faint nuts, and maybe a bit of DMS? Taste was better, with nuts, more caramel, light spices, and a touch of roast, with some cocoa in the finish.

Pours a brownish amber with a medium light tan head. Aroma of nuts, toasted malt and some sweet malts. Flavor was a malty mix of nuts and toasted malts.

22-oz bottle purchased at Coaltrain in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours clear brown with a small, rocky, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (nutty, chocolate, caramel), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather, must) with notes of toffee and dates. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish, slightly dry. Long duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; heavy roasted nuts and grain flavor, slightly charred.

In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pours reddish amber with a thin off white head. Has an atypical aroma of milled soybeans. Roasted with some coffees. Not very great due to the burned taste.

In short: A powdery brown ale with a milk chocolate character. Amateurish.
How: Bottle, tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Almost clear amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose of milk chocolate and caramel. Taste of milk chocolate, nuts and caramel. Somewhat floury/powdery with cacao notes. Rather sweet. Subtle (to say the least) hops presence. Not very tasty and what it tastes feels “off” or very boring. I once met a Big Shot that was as successful as this beer, the dude ran his own toaster repair shop and had a real Timex on his wrist.

Slightly cloudy, brownish amber pour with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of milk chocolate. Flavor of Quick (coacoa powder to make chocolate milk) and caramel. This is one strange brown ale, it’s clean, but strange.

(Rating #2191)
