Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Not a bad IPA. Low IBUs so not too bitter. If you are a hophead and looking for a big hoppy IPA you will not enjoy this one.

This was a pretty good overall IPA. I enjoy the other South Hampton products and this one was no deterent. Good use of hops with a nice balance of the malts as well. Enjoyable.

Pours amber brown with an off white head. Aroma is sweet caramel, and citrusy hops. Flavor is caramel, citrus, and an odd, soapy astringent hop flavor. Definitely not the best IPA I have had.

Rich golden pour with a nice white head. Aroma has some spicy, citrus hops and light honey malt. Flavor is lightly bitter with the malt taking over more than it should.

Tap at pony bar. Taste isn’t overly hoppy.. bitter caramel mostly. Nice bite too it but much better IPAs out there.

I’m thinking I got a skunked bottle. Mine tastes like a vienna lager with some sugary qualities of belgian ales. Very light. I get the candy sugar and the appleness that belgian ales have. No hop bitterness to speak of anywhere. Not in the nose or the palate, flavor, or swallow. Nothing. Pretty sure my 6pack must be like 12 months old, but the store I picked it up from moves a serious amount of product and never has rotation problems.... Dunno if I will try this again.

Super clear, copper color. Off-white head. Citrusy hops up front but not overpowering. Some malt. Strangely light mouthfeel. Finishes dry and a tad bitter. Schmek 3 test reveals a mild funkiness in the back of your mouth. Like wet laundry you forgot to tranfer to the dryer a week ago. Not bad but there are other IPAs I may reach for given the op.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. This IPA pours a light orange color with a foamy white head. The head has decent retention and spotty lacing if left down the glass. The nose is a bit off with a strong varnish smell to it. If you let it breath for a bit things get a bit clearer and you can pick up lots of pine and citrus hop notes. The taste is pure hop bitterness. Some citrus, pine, and earthy notes peek through, but they struggle against all of the bitterness. Medium bodied and slightly astringent, it has a unique mouthfeel. Overall the flavor is one sided to the bitterness. As a result I am left with the desire to have something with a little more balance. You can take or leave this one, but it certainly isn’t a favorite of mine.

12oz bottle. Pours bright orange-brown with deep orange-gold highlights and a medium light tan head. Some lace is left on the glass. Aroma is full of spicy, grassy hops. There is a light sweetness and touches of citrus, tropical fruit, and flowers, too. Flavor starts excellent with toasted breadiness and a light sweetness. A light fruitiness with subtle caramel emerges towards mid-palate -- floral, spicy, grassy bitterness does as well. The finish is distinctly floral hoppy with a dry breadiness and subtle caramel malt sweetness accentuating soft fruit esters. The mouthfeel is meidum in body and even textured with thick frothy bubbles. Overall, quite floral but very satisfying -- hoppy but still well-balanced.
