Commercial Description:
Saranac Black & Tan is a judicious melding of our classic irish stout with an all-malt german-style amber lager. The result is a brew that is hearty, pleasantly bitter and full of flavor, yet can be enjoyed bottle after bottle. Our unique Black & Tan has multiple flavor notes... you may enjoy counting them. Enjoy!

Frankly, after 504 ratings I’ve not much to add. My only complaint? Despite the upfront flavors of chocolate, smoke, malt, etc., it’s a little thin behind those flavors -- a little thin in body, a little thin in the middle, between the front flavors and aftertaste. A bit more body, a bit more malt would significantly improve this otherwise very drinkable and decent beer.

Pours translucent but very dark red with a thin tan head that laces the glass decently. Aroma and taste match up very well as both are pretty malty with chocolate and coffee flavors. Malt flavors are especially noticeable in the finish. Medium but creamy body.

Probably the best that Saranac has to offer. Hs some bitterness and a definate hint of coffee flavor. Hint of caramel and a little smokey finish. Very flavorful and easy to drink. 12 oz. bottle.

Slight coffee aroma. Dark clear pour, off white/tan head. Pronounced coffee flavor. Smoke finish. Very drinkable.

Poured from bottle. Smelled great. Lots of sweet malts in the smell. Taste was carmel sweetness with a slightly bitter finish. This was my first black and tan. It was okay in a bottle, but I will have to try a real one, I guess! This was drinkable, but nothing outstanding!

Bottled (thanks gnoff!). Dark brownish amber colour with mediumsized white head. Aroma is malts, some caramel and burnt sugar. Flavour is malts, paper as well as some hoppyness in the finish. The hops grows in the aftertaste.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep ruby red with creamy, though quickly falling, tan head. A ring of foam remains, to lightly lace the glass with each sip. Aroma is roasty/chocolatey as it warms up from fridge temps. Beautiful understated stout flavor, fairly thin in body - typical of a B&T. Malts and hops well balanced for a fine, ultra-drinkable brew. Well done!
