Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - Chritmas. Year round bottle conditioned.
A strong dark ale in the 'Winter Warmer' old style, but enjoyed all year round. Overflowing with warm roasted malt flavours, creating the smoothest of ales with a taste to enjoy.
Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, chocolate malt. Fuggles and Goldings hops.

500ml bottle from Cask & Cask, Tonbridge. So this beer will put me as king of this brewery. I have fallen in love with this brewery’s stronger beers. I love them. Very dark brown and ruby with thin beige head. Chocolate malt is wonderful, somewhat milky with dry malt and more milkiness on end. Alcohol keeps it interesting. It’s like drinking 70% dark chocolate with a glass of full fat milk. Nice but not wonderful. 3.8/5.0 Re-rate Cask gravity at Red Lion, Snargate Summer BF 08. Lovely. Dates, choc, molasses, treacle, but not syrupy, still dryish. Bit of spice, nutmeg. Smooth, not harsh. A kind of treacle sponge cake with nutmeg. Fantastic. I love this.

Bottle as part of Hogs Back christmas pack Aroma - Powerful, sour malty chocolate with alcohol aftertone. If this tastes as good as it smells, I’m in for a treat. Appearance - small but creamy and persistent head over a deep, deep amber brown. Pleasant. Taste - ...sadly doesn’t carry through from the aroma, quite. Too sour for my tastes, sour and bitter dominating the pleasant chocolate and malt undertones. Pleasant enough, but I wouldn’t seek it out. Palate - Thin and watery, a disappointment.

Cask at GBBF 2009, 4th August 09 & also at the Bricklayers Putney, 5th Oct 09. Ruby dark brown with some white head. Strong initial flavour of blackcurrant cordial and then a rich caramel & honeycomb taste. Full, slightly oily palate that coats the mouth. Better to have a half than a full pint.

Dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of fruit and raisin, with a vineous sherry note. Sweet dried fruit flavour with a roast note

Cask Handpump at the GBBF, Earl’s Court 07/08/2009 Fruit and roast aromas. Dark coloured smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter lasting roast malt finish.

Bottle conditioned 500ml @ home. Ruby coloured, not heavily carbonated, with a small off white head. Strong flavour of malt with some vanilla and a little liqourice. Alcohol quite noticeable on the tongue. A very easy drinking ’old ale’ type of beer which went down extremely well.

21st April 2008 Like a Duchesse Du Bourgogne but a little less sour and and a little more bitter. Very tangy. Very drinkable!

One-third pint ale dispensed on gravity at GBBF 09. Nice and clean, devil-black body. Smell of dark fruits and mild roasted malts. Jam-like flavour with fruitcakes and prunes supported by sweet, black malts. Well rounded aftertaste with rather low impact of alcohol on the palate (Earls Court, 07.08.2009).

Bottle@Home. Sweet aroma with licorice and all kinds of dark dried fruits. Very dark brown, light brown head, good lace. Very sweet, licorice, laurel, light bitter, herbs, quite complex. Medium to light body, lightly warming. Flavourful, low drinkability due to the herbs, quite complex.
