2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
I picked this beer up due to my love for Cologne, Germany. This is my first Kolsch style beer and I was overall moderately impressed. Color of this beer is golden bronze and this beer has a very strong aroma. There is a bit of a "sparkling-cider" type fizz to this beer and a very lively carbonation to it. Light bitter upfront taste with a light sour aftertaste. Decent beer but won’t try again.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear amber color with tons of little carbonation bubbles seen streaming up through the brew. Upon pouring there is a very small white head on the top of the brew that fades almost instantly to leave no lace and a tiny amount of foam on the top of the brew.
Smell – The smell is largely grainy and caramely with some lighter notes of wheat as well as a very light grassy smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a malty flavor of a grainy and cracker nature with just a hint of caramel sweetness and some lemon citrus tastes. The sweetness fades fast leaving a rather dry cracker taste to the brew. At the end a light earthy and grassy bitterness comes to the tongue leaving a rather dry and crackery flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is quite light in its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The two in combination are appropriate for the style making for a refreshing brew overall.
Overall – Nothing too special here. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either.

12 oz bottle (fresh: date stamp BB 31 Oct. 2014 and from refrigerated storage) poured dark golden with loads of visible carbonation and excellent clarity. Durable creamy, off-white head. Great looking but all downhill from here, from the grassy but seemingly musty aroma to the disparate mix of hop flavors. Mouthfeel is light, as expected, and OK.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12oz bottle from Wegman’s, West Seneca, NY. Pale amber with a billowing white head; yeasty aroma; soft yeasty taste with some sweet grains, but rather lacking in flavour, or finish.

A bit too heavy and sweet for a Kölsch. Not a bad beer, but off the mark for a Kölsch.
Would have 1 or 2 max. Could not see myself doing a session with this beer, regardless of it's 5.0% ABV.

Bottled. From old notes. Pale gold color. Very light malts, hops almost imperceptible. Light bitterness. Not much going on here.

Another case of a company calling some random concoction a kolsch. Pours gold. OK head. Light sour weird finish. Bottle.

light gold color; musty, malty aroma; a very light, slightly sweet beer; not as crisp as I like a kolsch to be

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle. Feint sweet/hoppy aroma on the nose. Pours clear, light yellow. Taste is light and effervescent, some bittering hops...more reminiscent of a light lager than an ale. Very nicely attenuated...clean finish/light mouthfeel.

Saranac’s Kolsch has a beautiful golden color and a thick white head. It has a lovely light aroma with some fruity esters that reminds me of pineapple. The flavor is well rounded with some light grains, mellow doughy yeast and fruity hops that add just a little bitterness. On the palate there is a nice carbonation with a light body and clean dry finish. I liked this refreshing offering from the summertime sampler and I could see myself looking for it by itself in a six pack over so.
