Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

I was expecting a bit more from this beer. Aroma was soapy with floral and light citrus notes. In the mouth it was sweet, with decent hops, but nothing that stood out. Finish is wierd.

Piney, pointed flavor. Grapefruit with lingering bitterness. A little one-dimensional. More flat than fizzy. Not much head. Average. Still on the search for the diamond in the rough.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear copper pour with a rocky white head. Lots of citrus in the aroma along with some rich caramel notes. The hops are very subtle in the aroma, but have a mild floral and herbal hint when you do find them. Lots of piney hops at the start of the flavor. Bitter and citrusy as it moves through toward a very bitter and dry hop finish. Peppery and flowery as it stays on the palate for quite some time.

On tap at Yard House Waikiki Beach - Poured rich copper color with thich off white head and leaves nice lacing on glass. Aroma - sweet malt with mixture of floral and citrus hops, very nice!! Flavor - Initial fresh resiny and floral hop taste with great balance of malt and finish is creamy and bitter Palate - medium bodied with creamy smooth texture. Finish is bitter, crisp and has nice afteraste!! Overall - This beer was awesome on tap. Had several on tap and kicked ass every time. I then purchased a 6pac in Kona, Hawaii and was not as good. Finish tended to be astringent but still a good beer. I will rate with both in mind.

12 oz. bottle, pours golden amber with a medium white head. Aroma is strong hops, grapefruit and pine. Flavour is much the same, but more malt to balance. Pretty good IPA.

An amber color to this. This was somewhat of a standard IPA to me, in other words, nothing stood out, but it still had all the nice standard stuff, pine, grapefruit, a bit of malt. In the palate, a bit of caramel in addition. On tap at the Yardhouse Waikiki.

Bottle, from my latest trip to Marcus Foods, in Whitefish MT. Pours a medium amber, with a thinnish off-white head, spotty lacing. Nose is grapefruit and pine, nice malt character, balanced, but not phenomenally expressive. Palate is clean and bitter, crisp malt, nice bitterness, very well made, tasty IPA. About what I’ve come to expect from Deschutes.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a clear reddish-amber color with a medium thin and creamy off-white head that burns away steadily. Thick sheet of lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character. Flavors of grapefruit, earthy malt and herbs as well. The finish is crisp and hoppy with a touch of malt sweetness lingering. Above average overall.

Nice strong head, good red tint. Not a lot going on in the aroma department, maybe a trace of resin. Thin palate with a slow building hop on the tongue. Fresh and piney.
