Commercial Description:
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

Somewhat murky orange body with a couple of fingers of offwhite head that dissipates a bit more quickly than expected. Smells yeasty, citrusy, and somewhat spicey. Tastes citrusy, malty, and spicey. Medium bodied. Surprisingly drinkable for the ABV... Very enjoyable! Kudos once again, Allagash!

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, spices , alcohol, and fruit. The flavor is sweet, fruit, mildly bitter, and citrus. Good beer.

These big brews from Allagash are really expensive and not all that great. There is some fruitiness but I can’t say oh gee there is some grape or pear. Overpriced by a long shot.

From C&C 750. Pours a clear orange with light, off white head. Nose is luscious fruit, yeasts and a nuttiness. Flavor follows with white grapes and a hint of alcohol. Palate is smooth, with a medium thick mouth feel.

Ryan or Mike brought this one in . Golden color with a smaller white head. Bacos and grape sweetness in the aroma. Flavors of pale malts and light wood. Honey and sweet grapes also in the flavors. Again the flavors seem amiss. Another near miss from Allagash.

Bottle. I had a small sample of this at a tasting at the brewery when it first came out. At that time, I thought it was something to behold, so, naturally, I bought a bottle. I agree with the others who say this should have been aged a bit longer before the release, but Allagash had a schedule to adhere to, so you can’t be too upset. Very astringent nose when first poured and very spicy. From the nose, you can tell it will be very dry. The grapes are present, but not too much and it does take on a nice spicy and fuity aspect. The first half of the bottle is rather astringent, but it really smoothes out toward the bottle. With a little age, this will be a nice one.

25 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark gold with a good amount of large bubbled carbonation. A foamy two finger off-white head sits atop like a lump of meringue. Aroma is soft and full of fruitiness with a definate white grape juice component. Some yeast and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is quite bready and alcoholic with lots of grape. You can definately tell that it’s chardonnay, but then again, maybe I’m just very suggestable. Very fruity in flavor with a good dose of alcohol on the finish. Mouthfeel is quite thick and syrupy with soft large bubbled carbonation. Overall, I think that this could do with a little cellar time to chew up some of the sweetness.
