A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Thick syrup pour, dark brown to black. Thick creamy reddish tan head. Strong toasty malt, raisin and biter dark chocolate aroma. Flavors of malt, soy sauce, bitter dark chocolate. Alcohol warming. Belgium lacing coats the glass. Thick full body. Slick warming mouthfeel. Bitter coffee, dark chocolate, malt aftertaste.

Pours black with a thick tan head. Roasted malt, soy sauce, caramel, toast, licorice and chocolate aroma. Roasted malt, licorice, raisin, fig, chocolate, soy sauce, toast, coffee, vanilla and grain flavors. Full body and moderate carbonation. Chocolate, licorice and roasted malt finish. Very good but a little too much licorice comes through.

Ten malted barley varieties and over ten percent ABV were used to create Founders Imperial Stout. Yeah, this is about the purest representation of the American-style Imperial Stout as you could hope for. Bitter, absolutely black, viscous, strong, and smooth. Bottled just after the start of December, my serving of Founders Imperial Stout was plenty aggressive yet surprisingly approachable. Flavors of bold black coffee, bitter chocolate, booze, and some smoke. Full-bodied. It takes a while to get through this Stout, but it’s time well spent.

Pours a thick opaque brown with a dark brown head.....aroma of coffee, chocolate, raisin......taste is smooth and boozy sliding into bitter dark chocolate, vanilla following with coffee grounds. Noticeably low carb and in this case it’s a bit plus. Excellent!

This ones a real thick syrup of a beer. Not too much carbonation either. Good and strong RIS.

Bottle 0,355 It was 6 months over best before date and it was perfect! Thick velvety black with minimal dark brown head. Malty with aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa beans and roasted caramel malts. Full bodied and creamy. Tastes of raw licorice, chocolate and cocoa. Light ashy ending with smooth bitterness in the aftertaste. Perfectly balanced. It’s like chocolate milk for grownups! But much better!

Turned onto this by a would-be beer sommelier at Spirit Haus in Amherst. I have complained due to my dislike for coffee/chocolate style stouts in the past, but this one is so well balanced that I must defer my whining. The aforementioned Spirit Haus proffered a 4 pack bottled in December, 2014, which year plus of aging may also work in favor of this fine brew. Nothing lost other than a solid head, perhaps an even smoother flavor gained. You can read many a testament here to the dark roasty aroma, opaque black appearance, creamy smooth flavor and texture, well disguised high ABV, subtle complexity, bittersweet finish and so on, but I have little to add to all that except, drink this as I did after a long and windy 25 mile bike ride on a sub-freezing day in January and quickly return to mid-winter contentment.

IBU : 90
Wysycenie: Niskie.
Podsumowanie:
Kocham RISy!;) Ten zawładnął moją duszą i ciałem. Polecam szczerze każdemu kto lubi perfekcyjne piwa.

Enjoyed this phenomenal beer with a hearty well-done steak last night, this rich and strong full-flavored imperial stout is among some of the best brews I have ever sampled. Thick black oil appearance with a coffee bean brown head, lots of roasted coffee and charred cocoa/wood flavors in the aroma. Flavor is an absolutely delicious mix of roast coffee, oak, cocoa (not chocolate in my opinion, just a bitter dark cocoa), and some notes of red fruit, almost cherry-like without the tartness or sweetness. Interestingly I did not observe any booziness or alcohol tinge in this beer, apart from the label on the bottle, nothing betrays the high ABV of this brew. Definitely warming though, and with a satisfying bitter earthy malt finish. Well done!
