Hazy orange body. Off-white creamy head. Aroma of oranges, spices, liquor, pepper, ... Moderately bitter, lightly sweet initial flavour. Lightly bitter finish. The pity thing is that the nice flavour does not finishes up very well.

A tad disappointed with this brew. Pours an amber brown color with a slight haze and thin off white head. Has an aroma similar to a belgian strong ale with spice. Malty and caramel aroma, with hints of a floral bouquet. Light and bitter with some sweetness. Really has the feel of a mix between a saison and a belgian strong. The light mouthfeel and lack of punch in abv really kills this for me. A light bland brew.

Peculiar greyish tinge to the pour; but ultimately results in a deep, rustic amber in my snifter. Very beautiful in the glass, topped by a persistent graphite-yellow head. This Fantome is ’elusive’ and ’deceptive’, for sure. While, initially, ’simple’ and ’straightforward’; it slowly pulls back the veil to reveal its secrets. Nose is brimming with doughy yeast, spicy pepper, silly putty! funk, and countless dried herbal notes: think thyme, savory, and marjoram. Flavor rings true, swirling sweet earthy dough with the amalgam of herbal nuances. Mouthfeel is medium-thin, but ’oily’; which is cut by the mineral-laden, spicy/peppery finish. A brew of contrasts for sure. Robust, yet thin and nuanced. Bold, but strikingly subtle. The Fantome works his magic ...

750 ml. into footed glass. Kind of underwhelming. Nothing about this beer stood out to me. After reading the description, I now know that the occassional spiciness underneath the dark, non-sweet chocolate malt is black pepper, but that flavor never came to mind while drinking. Smooth and quaffable, surely, but without any of the stand-out uniqueness I’ve come to expect from Fantome.

750mL split with Tarheels86. What he said. Chestnut color, white head. Aroma of raisins, taste of dates marinated in vinegar. Fantomes are always interesting, aren’t they?

750mL split with Travlr. Actually this was not bad- actually really enjoyed this after awhile. Pours a slightly flat cola ruby red. Aroma is pepper, yeast, must, earth. Good amount of raisins, dates, figs, light chocolate, some rye bread and black pepper. Not too alcoholic. Easy to drink. Light to medium bodied. .

Pours dark bronze with a full rocky beige head. The aroma has heavy sharp spice, saison yeastiness, lightly toasted malt, some cream and anise. Medium / light body that feels sticky, but the beer really isn’t sweet, and there is light carbonation that is frothy, but not gentle, it is fairly abrasive. The flavor starts with a dry cotton candy sort of taste, biting bitter spices, toasted malt, anise and light fruit sugar. The finish is astringent and has some pear taste along with dry spices with a good amount of pepper. Interesting, but not my fave Fantome by a longshot.

The aroma has pepper, paint, carpets, plastic, and yeast. The appearance is deep gold amber with a foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall this is not doing it for me.
