Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Bomber @ my gf’s place. Pours orange with a 2 finger puffy tan head. Nose is hoppy with a sweet resin tinge. Taste is sweet and malty with a hoppy edge. Overall pretty nice imperial red.

Bottle. Very clear, red-orange with a forthcoming and tight beige head. The hops are out front, fruity and bright with lots of mango and papaya. Would not peg as Hallertau. Smells like an IPA. The flavors are also intensely fruity. Has a very nice, very soft palate. Although the flavors linger long and with plenty of bitterness, the beer is delightfully clean. Nice bready malts add a toasty-sweet balance. Some alcohol detectable at the end, just enough to be a warning because otherwise it would seem sessionable. Good body. Unfortunately does not warm up super well; starts to feel heavy, syrupy, and more alcoholic. In spite of that, remains a delicious unpretentious beer.

Very basic IR but well constructed, masks the 9% very well and does so without an excess of hops. Looks more like an IPA than a red, tastes somewhere in between. This is a dangerous brew, real easy to put down. Extremely mild flavor for the abv%. Unremarkable, but tightly balanced and quite good.

Bottle from Wise Guys, shared with Brother Eric. Pours cloudy bright reddish/orange with a thin, creamy white head and abundant rising bubbles. Nose is some soft, bready/citrus hops. Taste is dry citrus hops with a slight breadiness, moderate carbonation and an overall dry/earthy feel. Flavor is lacking slightly, just leaves a little to be desired, not bad though. Could be a freshness issue, not sure.

This is one smooth customer which has a strong malt backbone that finishes well. Be careful as this tasty ale will sneak up on you.

Clear orange with a lasting frothy beige head. Aroma of cherry, wood, orange, toffee, sweet fruit. Taste is a great balance of hops and thick sweet malt. Bitter finish. Smooth.

650 mL bottle. Not-quite-transparent copper-red. Small head. Big, sticky caramel malt aroma, with toast, alcohol, gingerale, berries, and floral hops all mixed in there as well. Flavour is a bit of a letdown after the aroma. Not that it’s bad. It’s just a little too sweet and lacking the complexity of the aroma. Decent body and finish.

Syrupy orange honey pour w/ rimy bubbly head, bitter hop aroma w/o any malt presence, thin front end w/ some light fruit notes, followed by a big hop wallop on finish, heavy lingering bitterness on the palate

clear amber, smooth light brown/yellow head. caramelly and old hoppy aroma, also some sour or acid hops, sort of like a barley with some fresh ipa mixed in, and tons of caramel. strange. flavor is strong caramelly, malty, strong hoppy, sugary sweet, somewhere between barley wine and IPA. mouthfell is good. alc is hidden. very flavorfull.
