[#500 BIG thanks to Sk8viking for sharing this one] As one of my first real experiences with well brewed beer, St. Bernardus Abt 12 was an eye opener for me. Therefore it was an extra special treat for me to be able to sample this. Expectations were high. Gloomy dark color. Initial sniff showed clear signs of a way more hoppy aroma, compared to the standard Abt 12. Still some of the classic notes are present: heavy malty, molasses, caramel, banana, honey, brown sugar, raisins, and plums. Very full bodied with a hints of an alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet with some hoppy notes. This is still an excellent beer in my book, but clearly not as good as the original Abt 12. MadIndian (1022), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
