Tasted the 2006 version with abv of 11 %. The beer is said to be good for ten years. We should check that out. The word evolution is often used but not many beers get better over time. For instance, Westmalle Triple loses its sharpness over time. That is progress to me. Will soon taste the 2007 version.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2010 I does reminds me of trapist in its flavors of port, raisins and sweetness. But the sweetness is a touch too high making it too easy to drink and the palate is not thick enough. Ygberg (134), Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2010 Appearance is ruby red with white head. Aroma of fermented fruits, yeast, port wine, prunes and raisins. Taste is very sweet with hints of fruit and alcohol. Overall this beer is very interesting, a bit to sweet and heavy for me but it would probably get a lot better after some aging. AndyReynolds (322), Wilder, Kentucky, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 17, 2010 Bottle aged 10 years. Aroma is strong with alcohol, dark fruits, sweet malts. Notes of cinnamon and other spices stand out. On the palate, it is slightly under carbonated (I assume from the aging). The flavor really brings out the cinnamon. I would like to try this fresh to compare. crackedmachine (118), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 15, 2010 2009 bottle. Very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and suggests caramel and candy. Flavor is very sweet, tasting of caramel, toffee, and vanilla with little noticeable alcohol, along with a certain earthiness that helps keep this from one-dimensional sweetness. Good, flavorful, but maybe not quite Emperor worthy. fugitive (76), Athens, Greece

Dark brown pour with ruby highlights in the body. Minimal to no head. Sweet acidic smell, dried fruits, raisins, plums, and a little dough. Taste is dark friuts, figs, and a bit of yeast. Thick and syrupy. A bit too sweet for my liking. Didn’t realize the 11% until the next morning. mastabass666 (226), California, USA
