Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

On tap at the Brick Store in Decatur, GA. Pours a clear amber with a very small cream-colored head that didnt last very long and left no lacing. The smell is massively sweet with tons of sugary malts and dark fruit, definitely raisins, grapes, plums, and others. The alcohol burns the nostrils ever so slightly. The taste is just as sweet, with the dark fruits dominating from start to finish on a huge sweet malt base. This is about as sweet a beer as I have tasted and had a pretty healthy alcohol burn in the finish. The mouthfeel is almost syrupy and certainly sticky, with very little carbonation. This is big, hot beer right now and I think it would mellow a bit and gain some complexity with age. Right now, its a serious sipper with a lot of heat to it.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at Spirits RB bottled in 2006. Pours a reddish brown with only a small beige bubbly head and that was with some vigorous pouring. Aroma is awfully sweet with notes of caramel, rotting citrus fruit, toffee, molasses and alscohol. Medium syrupy body with average carbonation and a sweet aftertaste. Flavors of syrup, alcohol, raisins and slight cereal. How does a brewery make money only brewing one day a year, oh thats right charge almost 5 bucks a bottle.

Pours a deep coppery colour with a very thin white head, that dissipates pretty quick. Nose is berries and some alcohol, with a nice malt backing in behind it all. Taste is almost like an alcoholic candy cane. Very sweet. Alcohol is present, but manages to hide itself fairly well. As it warms up it tastes a bit more watery, but there is still some beer flavours there. The candy cane still sticks out as an interesting note. It is almost syrupy or oily in the mouth. Not bad, but a bit strong.

This pours real dark and with some carmel or fruit aroma. There is very little foam and not too much carbonation. The alcohol is a factor, but not as strong as I thought.

Smells and tastes a little sicky sweet for my liking. Taste is very similar. Pours brownish amber yet pretty clear in color with little to no head.

Not a big fan of this beer. Aroma was so so. Mostly caramel with a surprising lack of alcohol. Pour was a flat deep dark brown. No bubbles no head as expected. Taste was actually pretty good given the high alcohol content. Strong caramel and dark fruit with a some chocolate in the aftertaste. The alcohol burn is moderate, but very subdued for 14%. Decent carbonation. Bought another one to age.

Amber colour, small head, creates a lid, no lacing. Smell is vinous, yeasty, malty with no apparent hops. Taste is very very sweet, honey, fruity, jam. Obviously alcohol is very noticeable but it is much less so than I expected from a beer whit such a high ABV. bubbles are medium and the liquid is very smooth. This beer is dangerously easy to drink almost makes you think that it needs to have a warning label.. Serving type: bottle

Served cold from 12 oz. bottle Pours amber in color with a small no discernible head. Very nice aroma of malts, caramel, some fruit and hops. Taste is very sweet at first with a hint of alcohol. Slightly bitter, warm finish. A very intriguing beer.
