Commercial Description:
To acknowledge this year’s anniversary, our 11th, Allagash’s brewers decided to use a champagne yeast for both the primary and secondary fermentations. This beer was brewed with both Cascade and Northern Brewer hops and copious amounts of Belgian Aromatic Malt to achieve its vibrant garnet color and unique, malty palate. At a hefty 9% ABV, the alcohol in this brew is balanced by a light sweetness, a full-bodied mouth feel and a gentle, lingering hop character. Just prior to bottling, when there is no carbonation present in the beer, a fresh dose of sugar and yeast is added. After bottling, the beer is aged in our temperature-controlled cellar, where the yeast ferments the sugar and naturally carbonates the beer. This process, known as méthode champenoise, is the same traditional process we use for all of our bottled beers. The batch of 11th Anniversary Ale was bottled in May of '06 - 950 cases, six bottles in each case and is the only batch that will be available. Its aroma is redolent of red licorice, nutmeg, wild apple, and hard candy. Its taste is malty with date and fig notes with a finish that is crisp, striking a balance between dry and fruity. We suggest serving this rustic brew at cellar temperature. Our 11th Anniversary Ale would make a perfect addition to foods such as roast duck and venison, or with desserts like pumpkin pie and apple cobbler

Bottle, at csbosox KC tasting 4/14. Pour is cloudy orange - amber. Belgian yeast aroma with some hop coming through as well. Taste is same, with a nice malt medium - heavy body.

Pours with a two-finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Almost cloudy amber color. Medium bodied and good carbonation. Nose is raisins. Flavor sweet raisins, malt and some alcohol. Slight alcohol aftertaste. Totally different from their 10th anniversary ale. Expensive at $16.00 for a 750ml bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Wells, ME.

2006 bottle. Even though my friend got me 2 bottles of this and I am getting them next week, the thought of a new Allagash being in town that I hadnt drank was more than I could stand. Cork pops off nicely, leaving a fresh smell of apples and fruits. Pours out a dark brown color without much of a head after it settles for a minute. Taste is sweet, rich, and yeasty. Has that yeast that is in all Allagash beers, giving them their unique taste. These guys know what they are doing in more ways than one. They can release beers for 16 dollars and people will buy them just to try them. Brilliant, not to mention their brewing skills are exceptional. This is a fine beer, not quite interlude, way better than victoria. Pretty close to Musette in more ways than one. Actually tastes like a fruiter version. Very nice though, as I have come to expect. Cant wait for the next release. Hopefully it will be a few months, my wallet doesnt like the releases as much as I do.

Bottle thanks to Muenster. Pours a vibrant, hazy ruby with a white head. The aroma is rich and vinous. It has some slightly sour, cloth scents amid sweet licorice, cherry, and grapes. Nice and tart in the mouth with noticeable alcohol. The burn seems a tad intense for 9.2%, but it comes across in a welcome, warming fashion and mixes completely appropriately with the complex bittersweet, spiced notes. It’s semi-dry throughout, but finishes on a sweet/sour flavor like gingersnap cookies and berries. Allagash does it again.

courtesy of artusory and shigadeyo. Hazy amber/mahogany, minimal head. aroma is very bland in general. Some residuel sugar and faint fruit and nothing else. Flavor has a bunch of caramel and light fruity yeast esters. Pretty one dimensional for a belgian. Not overly impressed.

Finally got a chance to crack this open. Its been sitting in the fridge since August 1st. Poured into a rounded wine glass. Pours dark, murky, deep amber. Slightly translucent but very low clarity. A bit of lacing. Overall, looks like a very still beer, no visible carbonation, eventually all lacing dissipates. Aroma is very present - a mix of effervescent belgian sweetness and sour apple cider. Some hop presence but falls to the wayside as it warms. Mouthfeel is also cider like, low carbonation (I bet b/c of the champagne yeast). Tastes earthy and also apple cider like. This is where I believe the yeast does its work. The belgian sweetness still seems present but engulfed by the sour apple cider. Finishes with no bitterness or any sense of alcohol. In a way reminscent of a Belgian mixed with one of Heavyweight’s bread yeast brews.

P.S. redolent, had to look that one up.

750ml bottle-Pours a burnt amber with anice tight tan head. Aroma of malt, sweetness, citrus. yeast, and apple. Taste begins with the sweetness, apple, and malt and then follows with red licorice. This medium to full bodied brew finishes with a bit of dryness. Another great brew from Allagash. Sorry to see it go.

750ml bottle. A different beer than I was expecting. Decent aroma and look with a thin head. Good flavor that grows on you, a hint of bubblegum and a taste of a dubbel. Good palate and goes greta with food.
