Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Somewhat amber brown. Malty coffee aroma. Flavor is malty, nutty, coffee.... a rather full flavored brown ale. A hint of hops. A quite enjoyable brown.

On tap at the brewery on 7/178/09. Pours a great brown with beautiful lacing. Aroma is dominated by coffee and caramel and not a rischly roasted as I would expect. Get a nice smooth sweetness up front, then a mild bitter finish. Very well-balanced brown and not as nutty or rich as many other browns.

It poured a dark slightly red liquid with a small dirty white foam. Smell and taste of malt and caramell. Smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness and medium body.

Dark brown; thick, creamy, slightly off-white head. Aroma is chocolate and tobacco and a little coffee with a hint of vanilla and caramel; very nice. Flavor is more malty than anything else, along with a hint of chocolate and just barely vanilla; the 5.5% abv is surprisingly apparent as it is accompanied by a warmth as it travels down the throat and into the stomach. Full-bodied with medium stickiness. A very surprising offering from Avery; one of the very few beers that I wouldn’t mind buying to drink on a regular basis.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thick beige head. Roasted malt aroma with a strong earthy hop presence. Alot of sweet flavors up front with chocolate, coffee, and earthy hop tastes standing out.

Reddish brown. Sweet smell. Fruity chocolate taste, with nuts coming in as it warms. Surprisingly thick, pleasant aftertaste.

Not impressed. I was drinking a chocolate stout with a friend and got the two confused half way between. Either this speaks poorly of the stout or this beer. Not exactly a brown, not bad, just not a brown.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown body with a reddish tint when held to the light and medium, quick khaki head. Aroma is light roasted nuts, malts, and some sugar. Flavor is full of semi-sweet malts, bitter balance and and nice roasted chocolate, nutty finish. Medium bodied, easy drinking. A little disappointed by this brown but overall not too bad.
