Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Chestnut brown, HUGE rocky off-white head (not sure why the carbonation was outta control on the two bottles I have sampled - bad batch?) Anyway, the nose was toasty, nutty, with hints of brown sugar, milk chocolate, and light molasses. Flavor seemed similar with additional light coffee notes and grains sprinkled throughout. A nice hop bitterness seemed to kick in at the end to help bring the balance to life. Light to medium bodied, super fizzy carbonation, light nutty, chocolaty finish. Not bad, not great....just ehhhh.....

Coffee, toasted malt, hint of caramel on the the nose of this dark brown brew. A sweet taste opened up the tasting followed by the citrus tartness. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable for a Brown Ale.

Bottle: Deep brown, slight ruby, large foamy light beige head, sticky lacing.   Roasted malt nose, slight coffee, a bit earthy.   On the tongue there seems to be a bit of lactose, otherwise a roasted malt bang, with a shot of stale coffee beans and unsweetned malted milk balls.   Very soft notes of campfire or charred wood.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Slightly sticky on the finish, and even a bit dry.   Fairly decent example.

I’ve passed this over on the shelf many times thinking I had already rated it. I was wrong. Pours a dark brown ruby color with tan medium-sized head that lasts a while. Not a bit of carbonation. Leaves considerable lacing. Aroma is a variety of malts along with some hops. Flavor is roasted and nutty but not as much as a stout. A very decent brown ale, even though I’m generally not a fan of the style.

Pours a clear yet dark ruby amber color with a medium beige head. Nutty malty aroma with a dry woody aroma. Taste is malty with a strong nutty presence. slight chcocolate finish. Pretty good for a brown ale.

Another bottle from a $9.69 six pack at BevMo. This 12 oz bottle poured a rich dark brown and raised a moderate light tan head and light lacing . Nose of chocolate and roasted malts. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor shows malts, chocolate, and nuts. Dry finish. Pretty good brown.

Definite milk chocolate, toast, cream, and esters in the aroma. Head is tan, like that when dark crystal malts are used, with a light brown body with lots of red throughout. Nose of Captain Crunch Crunchberry cereal (some pluminess). A creamy, full palate. Crystallized, dark fruit, some cream, and a grainy/husky character make up the bulk of the flavor.
