Dogfish Head Red and White

had this with maniac4016. pours a cloudy dark orange with a nice three finger fluffy white head. aroma is a standard golden ale with oak and funky grapes. has a medium to full body with good lacing and just right carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma, and has a lot of sediment floating around. it is a different and powerful beer not my type but i have to rate it for what it is. funky! no sign of the 10% abv except the buzz. done in the blind but i know now that there is some stand out coriander in this beer.

intreging on the nosing,geuze/lambic/ flanders style, would think this is going to be acidic/ sour(we will see ) looks to be unfiltered,but that is apealling to me, at least it shows arteseanal qualities/ looks like a dunkel weisse dominant malt right off the git, i dont disern the grape must(i drink quite a bit of wine too). MAYBE I’M MALT SENSITIVE. in my humble opion, they should stick to over-hopping their beers.

Mar. 2007 - Beer poured dark amber color, beautiful fluffy head and ok lacing. Aroma was strong wheat. Flavor was wheat, some spices and some sweet malts and fruitiness and an odd bitter/sour soapy flavor. Very wine-like in its flavor. Too sweet and the "soapy" weird flavor put me off a bit. Mouthfeel, aroma and appearance were great and the flavor was "good". Weird beer...never woulda guessed it was 12%.

Poured a clear orangeish red with a small fizzy/creamy light pink head. Aroma of red grapes, coriander, grassy hops, orange citrus rind. Flavor follows with a fairly assertive mix of sweetness, dryness, and bitterness with flavors of grapes, dark fruits, pine needles, and lots of spices including ginger and coriander coming to the surface. Assertive, but still with enough refinement and balance to give this brew a sense of firm identity without the messy confusion of other big experimental brews. Some dryness brings up the finish to betray the strength of the beer. Sits a bit heavy for the flavors, which is somewhat unsettling. I’m not sure the wine was a "necessary" addition as it pertains to increasing the complexity of the beer but I love what it did to the appearance. The bold color and agreeable taste make this a decent choice for a date beer.

750ml bottle dated on 2-9-07, today is 2-13-07...not sure if the aging is really beneficial. Super sticky and wine like, this one is a little suspect when the description on the bottle defines it as a malt beverage (and it’s not German). It’s an interesting enough beer, with some subtle enjoyable qualities...but not exactly on par with other Dogfish products. Attractive red-brown color with soft effervescence.

750, capped. Pours a glowing dark amber with a thin gray film. Big toffee, banana, yeasty, sour sweaty nose. Body’s on the high side of medium with plenty of acetic fizz tickling the palate. Weird puckery fruit tartiness on the mid-palate; must be that "pinot noir juice," whatever pinot noir juice is. Sticky and dry finish. This is just another big stupid mess of a beer with an unreasonable price tag from DFH. I’m now officially past the point of seeing all my affection for them worn away. I really dug them a few years ago but the goofiness and the pricing are just too much to handle now.

Plum amber with light, off-white head / Nose of grapes and dark fruit / Medium, estery, malty body with good finish and some alcohol bite / Flavors of banana, plum, orange, caramel, cloves, and coriander / Pinot noir aspect understated - a fine Belgian ale.

Pours a ruby hue with a nice off white head that falls rather quickly and leaves some lacing. Nose is grapey and fruity. Flavor is quite unique. Strong and noticeable fruit tones mix with a mild alcohol presence. Odd wine mixture that slightly reminds me of something along the St. Lamvinus line, but not quite that in the long run. So we have the fruity and earthy mix here with a nice full carbonation and smooth liquid touch. Overall this is a very interesting beer to say the least. Could it be a staple in my beer diet? I’d have to say no. But still interesting enough to try.
