Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

The aroma of berries sneaks through a little bit. Thin head. It is a solid fruit beer but it has a serious kick @ 10% alcohol. Decent beer, I would be likely to drink it more often if it was available in 12 ounce bottles.

750ml. Pours cloudy amber with a decent ivory head. Lively carbonation releasing aromas of spice, wheat, orange peel and mild yeast. Bready mouth feel. Tastes of blackberry, grape, wheat and lemon zest. Very fruity and yet not too sweet. High alcohol content is well masked. I am glad I tried this beer but I would not seek it out again; especially at this price point. This beer seemed to taste better after it breathed for a while. This also allowed for it to warm up a bit and approach room temp. I wasn’t a fan of the first glass at 55 degrees. But the bottom of the bottle at 65 degrees was much improved; or maybe that’s the 10%abv talking.

Had on draft at bridge view tavern. Pours a very nice looking red with small head. You can smell and taste the berries but its not overpowering. just the right amount of carbonation and malt to make this a very pleasant experioence and not at all like drinking punch, which is always fear with fruit beer. very good hardly can tell its 11% abv

What a unique beer to say the least. This Belgium style Golden Ale brewed with black raspberry and blueberry puree is a must try for any serious beer lover. The label art comes from the portrait painter David Larned from Pennsylvania, accompanied by his wife Sarah, they are both huge Dogfish Head fans. This interesting brew pours garnet color with a thin white fizzy head. Aromas of black raspberry and blueberry are the most pronounced along with hints of citrus. The palate is not dominated by the fruit like you would think, it is definitely there but it is different than you expect. The fruit is balanced with a nice amount of malts, a great acidity and fine bubbles that are almost Champagne like. If you are looking for something new and interesting to try, this is it.

750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazed golden brown with a thin linen white head. Pleasant aroma of sweet berries with perhaps a touch of white sugar. The flavor is malt with very noticeable berries. Sweet, but not with the sugar present in the aroma. The sweetness is more of a fruit sweetness. A bit of mild spice in the flavor as well. Very mild bitterness at the finish. Enjoyable.

Very flavorful. Nice hint of blueberries but not overpowering. Base beer is a nice belgian style.

Strong scent of berry, with a bit of overpowering alcohol and some level of malty aroma. Beer is a pale pinkish and brown color. Good belgian style flavoring. The hints of berry are prevailing and do a great delicate dance with the malty undertones. Alcohol is noticeable but not harsh. A very nice drink. A somewhat busty drink. Not the best Dogfish Head has ever made, but a pretty good effort altogether.

Bottle: Pours red, white head with some floaties making their way through. Sour aroma, lots of berries, cassis and caramel. Heavy cassis flavour, lots of those berries and a little fruity and light for my taste. Credit to them in that I had no idea I was drinking something that was 10%, and it’s a lot better than Ephemere Cassis, but just not my thing.
