| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Bottled. Poured a deep reddish-amber with a freakin’ huge pillowy beige head. The nose picked up bushels of cured ham, well-smoked bacon, and charred wood.. rich and engaging.. glass fulla smoky meat (wife says that it’s disgusting). The flavor holds par.. fuller-bodied and rich, with the toasted, smoked wood blending very well with the meaty notes... ample doses of brown sugar and molasses pair with toasted leafy hoppage for the bock component.. finish was somewhat ashy, which detracted slightly. Fuller-bodied with nice flow until the very end. Great beer! Theis (4263), Denmark

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 5, 2006 This beer is freaking awesome. This is what defines the Rauchbier style. Pours a unique color that I have never seen before in a beer- deep amber but more like a deep woody brown. Ok head and some lace. Aroma is lots of smoked malts, smoked salmon, maple bacon, smoked wood- possibly oak and probably beechwood. Kinda got that campfire -like aroma. Also reminds me a bit of some cigar smoke. Flavor is not quite as smokey but still lots of burnt wood, smoked meats, and a little bit of caramelized malt. Possibly some chocolate or other nutty-like malts. Lightly bitter finish, but so damn smooth overall. Phenomenal beer. Everytime I have an Aecht smoked beer, I seem to like them more and more. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2006 Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - tupalev’s bottle. Poured clear dark reddish-mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma of woodsmoke, hickory smoked bacon, sweet roast malt, hints of dry hops, herbal spices and lemon juice. Flavour of campfire and hardwood ash but *very* bitter (mostly hops, I guess), with nutty roast malt - and lemon zest on the long smoky finish. Mouthfeel is very lively, with an average body - quite complex and balanced, moreso than their Weizen, and I found I enjoyed it more than the hyper-aggressive Marzen, although the Marzen is "better." Really nice! (pre-emptively: you’re WRONG, jerc) Radek Kliber (4006), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

Appearance :Fine haze of brown bock, purple ruby light trough shown. Neatly contrasting velvety white coat. Nose : Good clean smoky aroma, more on birch wood side than drying cured meat. Sweet brown sugar weaved into it , as it warms up chocolate cake like aromas appear. Flavour/Palate : Medium bodied, meal like flavour. Smoky front with burnt roasted malts at finish. Dark inka coffee with cocoa beans finishing creamy chocolate. Brown malts go superbly with balanced smoky malt. Gentle woody bitter ending. This is benchmark in smoked beer world that other should aspire to.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 23, 2003 Dark brown color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is smoked gouda. It sort of like drinking a liquid glass of smoked gouda wrapped around a rasher of bacon. The initial smokiness is somewhat overwhelming, but after the first few sips it settles down into a smoky malty beer. The smokiness is well balanced by the maltyness. Nice beer, if you don’t like smoke, don’t bother with this beer, but if you do try this one. World class. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is smoky and slightly bitter.
