UPDATED: JAN 14, 2024 Bottle @ home. Sampled a few times both cold and hot (70 degrees Celsius). Last sample as hot is valid for this rating. Clear, deep red body without any head. Aroma has acidic cherry, dry fruit, cinnamon, cloves and classic glühwein. Taste is quite sweet with some balancing acidity, cherry, dry fruit, glühwein spices and some alcohol. Balanced body and long lasting aftertaste. Nice and fun alternative glühwein. Not easy to compare with anything else, but that’s not important – this is nice.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2023 BESTER GLÜHWEINERSATZ!!! Das Liefmans Glühkriek habe ich in einer Sektflasche mit Korken -eingewickelt in weihnachtlich grünem Papier- bei der Bierothek besorgt. Auf der Zutatenliste stehen als besondere Zutaten Kirschen (6%), Fructose, Gewürze und natürliches Kirscharoma. Außerdem sind auf dieser Flasche 6% Alkohol angegeben. Der Geruch ist stark von Sekt, Kirschen und Zimt geprägt. Der Schaum ist fast nicht existent - wir haben ein dunkles Rot mit hoher Kohlensäureaktivität. Beim Antrunk leichte Säure, die von der Fructose und den Kirschen aber gut in Schach gehalten wird. Ich kann als zusätzliche Gewürze Vanille, Nelke und Anis schmecken. Getreidige oder brotige Aromen sind hier nicht erkennbar. Beim Abgang kommt die Bitterkeit des Alkohols und Hopfens (Nelson Sauvin?) durch. Super Komplex - liefert genau das, was man vom Namen erwarten kann - SPITZE! Bin leider nicht über die kalte Verkostung herausgekommen. Die zweite Möglichkeit ist die Verkostung bei 70C, die wieder neue Aromen (ich vermute mal Karamell) auftut. Egal wie man es nimmt - es ist mein bisher bestes Glühbier - selbst in kaltem (und ziemlich schnell ausgetrunkenen) Zustand.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2023 The time of year is probably not the right one for this beer. It have a lot of Christmas, but on one of the season's slightly cooler evenings on the balcony it still turned out well. Of course, I try both serving suggestions, namely both cold and heated. The difference is big, but both variants have good features. Cold: Pearly carbonation and light foam. Clear aroma of ripe cherries. The taste is sweet and slightly sour towards the end and it tastes excellent of cherries. It will be a good companion for the Christmas 'Ris a la Mande' (traditonal Danish christmas dessert) or other slightly heavier desserts. In fact, I think it will be included in my family's Christmas dinner when the time comes again. Warm: Heat slowly in a saucepan to the recommended 60-70 degrees Celsius. Things happen here with the beer. Firstly, there is a lovely, enticing aroma of cherry in the kitchen and you almost get into the Christmas mood during the preparation. When it is then poured into tall clear glasses, it surprises by still having carbonation and foam crown intact. I had actually thought that would languish during heating. The taste becomes more direct cherry and sweetness and the fullness is greatly enhanced. It is a rather nice alternative to the traditional 'Gløgg' (also a Danish tradition with heated red wine, raisins and almonds), and then the addition of almonds and raisins is not necessary at all. It will probably also have a place in my Christmas tradition in the future.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2022 Pours deep ruby red with white head. Nose is spicy. Hint of cinnamon, cloves. Taste is mature cherries, sour red berries, fruity red wine, spices. Gentle touch of alcohol. Moderate body. Enjoyed warm!

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2022 Glass at the Unterhaching Weihnachtsmarkt, hot and carbonated from the tap. Tall glass, slightly spicy wine-cherry nose, very nice head. Only a little carb left on the tongue due to the heat. Nice full cherry flavor with mild sweetness and a great balance of tartness. Moderate complexity. Extra point for being the inventive one to sell this beer hot at Christmas!

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2022 Copenhagen 6/11 2022. 75 cl corked bottle wrapped in green paper from Meny, Østerfælles Torv, Kbh. Ø. Pours murkish, brownish, red with a small off-white head. Stable. Settles as thin patch of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is intense with an overwhelming sweet and fermented odor mingling with lighter tart notes. Sweet cherries, vanilla, sugar in abundance. Whiff of sour berries. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, a bit greasy, soft, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is intense with a heavy cherry sweetness followed by a moderately strong sourness. Aftertaste is sweet sugary withmore Hana hint of Christmas. Lingers for a while. Finish is Cherry wine.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2022 Аромат хороший и даже необычный для фруктового пива с вишней. Аромат не сильный но приятный, есть сок от черешни, полу сладкий, немного косточки, схоже на морс немного, немного листьев от ягод типа смородины. Цвет бледно розовый. пены почти нету. Вкус такой же сбалансированный и приятный. В меру сладкий, есть снова сок от вишни, но без кислинки, немного сухости в конце, намеки на ягоды смородины, но без горячи. В целом отлично, но пил если честно достаточно холодным.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2022 Big bottle. Prefer this cold rather than warm, which I've had before and thought was a bit weird. A christmasy version of the regular liefmans kriek.
