Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours gold/tan and quite cloudy with a thick but shortlived white foam. The aroma is very fruity - banana, figs, honey. There is some caramel maltiness in the aroma, too along with a trace of ethanol. The flavor is doughy and slightly yeasty with lots of fruit - mostly apples, some banana. Sweetness is surprisingly low. Finish is balanced and very dry with an unexpectedly strong taste of ethanol (considering it’s less than 7%). The mouthfeel is luscious and airy with lots of bubbles and a medium-full body. Overall, a very decent beer. Dry and fruity with decent complexity and good balance. The alcohol bitterness in the finish is a little distracting, but the beer is otherwise quite pleasant.

750 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. Dim golden body with a big, foamy white head. Refreshing aroma of light citrus fruit, spices and yeast. Flavor is very refreshing as well, fruity, spicy and floral with a delicate bitter touch. A nice Saison, but a bit heavy carbonated.

Had this next to the Saints version and could definitely taste a difference. This had a fresh citrus nose with some spices. Poured light golden with a frothy 2 finger white head. The taste came through with spices, citrus, grass, and not as many earthy tones as the Saints version. Good brew.

Big frothy white head and a cloudy dark yellow color. Very dry finish and some nice bittering hops. White whine feel with a distinct dryness. Citrus and spice aroma, mainly clove but some anise as well.

Bottle sample. Slightly hazy peach color, little carbonation and an aroma of peaches and cream. Although this smelled decent, the flavor was nothing more than some spices and bitterness and finished creamy. This beer might have been a little better if they had backed off on the spices more.

Bottle. Pours a golden orange with a big white head that slowly settles into nice lacings. The aroma is yeasty and estery with notes of wheat, sweet tangerines and spices. Nice balance in the nose, but not very complex. It’s medium-bodied with a slightly sharp and prickly mouthfeel. The taste is quite eventful. It’s rather sweet with a complementary floral bitterness. Very aromatic with notes of sweet citric fruits, wheat, yeast and perfumy herbs. The finish is a bit phenolic and bitter with notes of sweetish alcohol, spices (anise and cloves), and tangerines. A good beer, but nothing extraordinary.

Thanks SpencerDB for sharing. Pours a light gold with one finger of foamy white head. Nose is citrus zest, white pepper, mandarin orange, lemony, estery. Citrus rind bitterness in the flavor, pepper, estery, yeasty, orange, lemon grass. Palate shows a grapefruit rind bitterness and a pepper spice. Tasty.

750 ml corked bottle. A hazy dark golden beer with a huge, creamy, lacing and mostly lasting white head. The aroma is moderately malty with some hops and there are notes of pepper, flowers, citrus and some spices. The flavour is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Nice mouthfeel. Medium body, lively carbonation, quite long finish with medium bitterness. Good Saison inspired by dupont, but not as clean or good.
