Power Plant 8-8-8 Imperial IPA

Draught at the brewpub. Does indeed seem to be a different recipe than their 6th Anniversary IIPA. Suitably hoppy aroma, tinged with tangerine, orange, grapefruit and berry accents, some faint pine and flowers here as well along with some faint background honeyish malt sweetness. Mostly clear medium-dark golden amber color with a slight head. Flavor is a bit different than aroma would indicate, with some bubblegum sweetness up front, more pine and citrus dominating the middle and finishing with a good amount of bitterness and hop flavor, accompanied by a relatively gentle alcohol presence. Some cidery and cereal malt notes amidst the hops here. Body is a bit lighter than anticipated, the palate oily and smooth. Pretty basic interpretation of the style but not bad.

Sampled at the Augusta bottoms beerfest alongside vyvvy. Read his description about how this beer was poured-you will get a laugh. pours turbid brown (yes, brown) with a very small white head. tons of hop floaties from the dry hopped cask, which stick to the sides of the glass. If drug tests looked for alpha acids, then i would fail badly! nose here is chalk full of a tub of hops-everything you can imagine-pine, resin, citric, grapefruit, wood. however, the flavors are very resinous with some earthy/piney character. Also, the hops were fresh, so the green hop character is there as well, malt? what malt-this is liquid hops. For what it is, its definately not great for the style. however, this beer was novel, unique and definately had to experience this one first hand. the 9% was nowhere to be found, until after the 3rd sample.

Sampled at Augusta Bottoms Beer Festival 2006. Poured somewhat from the cask. There was some much hop residue this was not able to come out of the cask in the normal fashion. It was periodically drained into a pitcher and poured from there. It is probably needless to say, but this is very hoppy. Pours brownish orange with lots and lots of sediment and very little head. The aroma has a multitude of hop qualities - grapefruit, wood, pine, spice, etc with lots of resin. Medium body that is light for the style and the aroma. Almost no carbonation in the beer. The initial taste is fairly light with some hops and fruity-like malt. The finish however is a hop bomb having woody and piney hops in the forefront. Lots of resin is in there. Very very dry finish that is a little harsh. Quite interesting take on the style.
