Pours a deep brown with ruby red highlights and a medium off white bubbly/creamy lacing head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, caramel, some vanilla, woody notes, hints of smoke, caramel, cherries and cantolope. Flavor was a mix of the same with some toasted malts, sweet, toffe, some light hop bitterness, coffee and kid of coats the tongue.

Impenetrable darkness with a great, thick, beige head. Iron and sweet raisins on the nose. Sweet, perfect little malts in the mouth. Rich and deep with coffee, cream and chocolate. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours rather dark mahogany, opaque and deep enough to look black in dim lighting. The head retention on this brew is excellent. The aroma is heavy and sappy with an ensemble of toffee, hickory, caramel, and light citrus. It’s fairly thick in the mouth, almost sticky at times. The flavor is assertive and boasts great strength with a heavy foundation of caramel, leather, rye bread, bacon, and many brighter notes of pine and smoky scotch. This brew’s finer points, though, I believe lie within the deep, malty richness. The flavors are huge and solid, the alcohol is nowhere to be sensed. kp (8700), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Did not expect the balance of the 10 malts and 10 hops to be so good due to the age, which seemed to mellow out some of the hops. Had to go buy up the rest, want to cellar for a year or two. Tastes resiny and peppery with some dark fruity hints and a molasses finish. Age is revealed in some oxidation setting in, but otherwise good. yobdoog (1583), Woodridge NY, New York, USA

Taste has some hops balancing the sweet molasses, and a little spice. Pretty good. PilsnerPeter (2862), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 16, 2009 Tap at Blind Tiger: Deep brown with a ruby hue in the light and a sticky tan head. Very sweet aroma- sticky malt notes of tobacco, butterscotch, light roast under a big vanilla character. Sticky cloying body with evident diacetyl and roast meshing with a gigantic sticky sweetness. Toffee, sticky sweet tobacco, vanilla, dark caramel and nurbt marshmallows. No finesse or subtlety here; difficult to drink.
