Tap @ Pizza Port Carlsbad. I was so excited when I saw this, and I can happily say that it lived up to all of my expectations. Midnight black pour with a thick, 1 cm tall brown head. Heavy aroma of burnt coffee, tobacco, chocolate, molasses, leather, wood, and just a little bourbon. Amazing taste. Lots of roasty malt, bitter coffee, baker’s chocolate up front and throughout. A deep, rich oak taste accompanies the sweeter molasses and licorice flavors. A bittersweet finish with just a little caramel malt and hop bite. I could drown in this beer its so good.

Mar 20, 2010 3/20/10: 2009 bomber ordered online through brewforia.com. Dark black/brown pour with a frothy tan head and tons of stick. Complex and subtle aroma of chocolate, dark malts, burnt wood, metal, alcohol and oat. Tastes of wood, dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, slight yeast and licorice. Dry ashy bitter finish. Medium texture with a light spike of carbonation and a metallic hint. Interesting stuff for sure. Seems to be a good one to sit on for a couple years.

Mar 19, 2010 pitch black and viscous with a large tan head. huge vanilla and roasty nose. thick mouthfeel with some bitterness followed by vanilla, chocolate, licorice, and roasted notes. alcohol providing a ton of depth, an amazingly flavorful beer that tastes as though it’s of half the alcohol. extremely impressed

Mar 14, 2010 Lost my tasting notes for this one, but I recall not enjoying the overpowering licorice. Mouth feel and flavor fell short for me.

Mar 6, 2010 22oz bomber courtesy of mashmaster. Had this right after Sexual Chocolate. This one has more of the dusty chocolate characteristic and has a much bigger hint of grain to it.

Mar 6, 2010 Bomber poured into a snifter. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Taste of chocolate, coffee, molasses, and black licorice, with a bit of bitter hops. Don’t taste any bourbon barrel aging, mainly coffee. Smooth creamy mouthfeel, mild carbonation. Good, but not sure I see why it’s so highly rated.

Mar 2, 2010 Big bottle, kindly shared by Kestral. Dense and foamy light brown head. Body is as black as it get with no clarity. Roasted malt aroma, bordering on burnt, with a sourish and ashy accent. Black chocolate and cold coffee as well, and tones of dried dark fruits. Taste is hard roasted, alcohol-soaked dark malts, bitter coffe, bitter chocolate, tar and wood. A noticable caramelly sweetness beneath. Thick, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Hot, malty-bitter and roasted ending. Very potent and tasty, not fully balanced according to my tastebuds.

Feb 28, 2010 Draught at Mountain Sun. Black with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, and sweet malty booze. Flavor is chocolate, bread, caramel, and whiskey. Great!
