Heavy mouth feel. Careful because the taste masks the 12 % ABV. My new favorite brown ale. I have yet to have a bad beer from dogfish head brewery. It boasts all of the gentle, bitter and malt characteristics of a brown with the aged, red wine tint of aging on wood. Aromas are plummy and rich fruit, chocolate and bread. Flavors are extremely complex, well-integrated into the beer, and long on the finish. beeratarian (18), cleveland, Ohio, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2010 My my. Well at last I’ve found a brown beer that I really, really like. Pours out with a real oily texture, gooey and thick. Despite being called brown I have to say if it is rown at all it is VERY dark brown pretty much black in fact, with a small but persistant, creamy, mocha coloured head. Wow! What a nose, loads of compelxity. Roasted notes up first, then a distinct savoury cherry characteristic, then a really spicy woody sent that almost reminds me of subtle sandlewood, spices take over with dark chocolate and fruit. Flavour is amazing, such balance. Hits with earthy roasted malts, then some toasted nuts, more bitter chocolate, some hint of the alcohol - but it still remains impecably contrled for the abv. Then in come more vinous notes, some fruits of the forest. Mouthfeel is faltless, palate-wise it feels like creamy velvet, almost like irish cream, LUSH. Finish is long and smoky with more spiciness, chocolate, wood and grapes. Really great beer and pleasignly unique.
