Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Courtesy of Pailhead. Pours dark black with nice beige head, fades to film. Lots of chocolate in the aroma with some ripe fruit. Flavor almost exactly the same as aroma with some coffee in the finish.

A Heavy belgian stout full of alcohol. Nice bitter coffee smell, but a weak balanced beer at the end. It’s dry but warm the entire body with not hidden alcoohol

330ml bottle. Picked up in Brugges lack body, tan foam that doesn’t last. Very rich aroma; dark chocolate, rum, mollasses, black coffee, dried fruit and spice. Big dense body, sticky, with quite a high carbonation. Complex ody of rich medium-roast malts and dark fruit undertones; dark chocolate and rum/raisin qualities are prominant. Drying finish with a decent lingering bitterness. Not so much of a stout for me, but rather a particularly dark, and tasty, Belgian strong ale.

bottle-deep dark brown with a foamy/sudsy off-white eggshell head. musty, yeasty and lighly funky nose with an undertone of roast and coca, but really smells more belgian than stout-ish. flavors are yeasty, funky with some roast-really hard to describe. palate is over-carbonated, which brings this experience down a bit. my notes for this are a bit hard to read-must have been during a long tasting night back in ST Louis! I will have this again im sure because i had wanted this one for years!

bottle - dark brown beer with a white head. Strange aroma of liqueur and some caramel and cardboard. Flavour is malty and sweet, faint alcoholic touch, some caramel and coffee hints. Uncoventional stout.

[bottle] Slightly medicinal coffee and liquorice aroma that’s interestingly earthy. Almost clear dark orangish brown that gushed but quickly settled to a thin ring. Sweet black coffee flavour with medium bitterness and a liquorice note. Medium body, moderate carbonation, bitter coffee finish.

Had on draft at Max’s belgian fest. Great great beer. Dark, toasty, and heavy, and had a heavenly roast complex. This is the type of beer that is not only dark, it’s gritty. Coffee coffee coffee was everywhere. Really nice beer, though I wouldn’t pay the asking price for it I don’t think.

On tap at Max’s. Kicks ass. Agatha Christie would be proud! Very much a Belgian stout with dark fruits, chocolate covered cherries in the nose. Taste is not too heavy: dark fruits, coffee liquor, vanilla. Super easy to drink. 9% is totally hidden. Awesome session impy (Yes! I think you could!).
