Aroma is heavy roasted coffee-like, with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Flavour is lovely burned supported by some more bitterness from the hops. The light carbonating makes the mouth-feeling thick, almost like dairy cream. This is greatness in a can! dchmela (1599), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Courtesy thebeercellar. Pours black and thick like motor oil with a thin dark tan head. Roasted grains are very prominent in the aroma, along with chocolate malt. Taste is thick and chocolaty, balanced nicely with the roasted grains. Has a little hint of coffee in there, too. Alcohol starts to give a little kick at the end of the taste, also. Leaves a roasty dry finish. Thick and oil like, leaves a tan residue in the glass. A seriously good impy and another great beer from Oscars. malrubius (1047), Valley Stream, New York, USA

Blacker than Dick Cheney’s soul with dark brown head and lotsa lace. Dark chocolate, chocolate chip cookie and earth aroma. Roasted chocolate, coffee, espresso, mild fruit and mild bitter finish. Lingering espresso bitterness. Full body and low carbo. Yeah, it’s great. tarjei (1792), Bryne, Norway

I’m noticing lots of chocolate and a hint of coffee on the nose. Chocolate, malt, coffee and a tiny hint of hops finishing very smooth and well balanced. I will drink this beer again and I’ll do it alone, I refuse to share something this good with people who won’t appreciate it. matt7215 (1020), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 10, 2008 Can at home. Pours in midnight black and produces a nice dark choclate head. The aroma is complex fruity and sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, toffee, and espresso. The flavor is immense. It is a breathtaking combination of dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts toffee and many other flavors. Each sip reveals more and more of this beers complex character. Really opened up as it got warmer. The finish is rich and smooth and the alcohol is well hidden. This beer is EPIC. A must try for any beer lover. An excellent example of the style. Glugs out slowly with a pitch black, burnt motor oil look to it. The head slowly builds its way up to a 3 inch foamy pillow with large bubbles on top that pop and fizz away. This is a vile looking brew... heh...heh...
Smell is rather subdued but it may be because of this huge ass head. Now then.. it has calmed down somewhat and there is that lovely smell of roasted chocolate and malt.
This is the best tasting RIS that I’ve ever had. Simply amazing! Dark roasted chocolate and cocoa dominate the palate here.
My wife, who doesn’t like "my beer", is in love with this one. Here’s hoping that I can get some more.
