Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Bottle. Pours out a sediment filled dark brown, shows copper at the edges of the glass. Creamy light tan head that laces. Aroma is nice, fruity, yeast, notes of cranberry. Potent flavor, sugar sweet, but not cloying with a spicy bitter finish. Foamy medium body. Re-rated 03/08/2009 - Consistent with the first rating, picked up a slightly tart/sour finish. Great beer.

Beautiful pour, a hazed amber-ruby, with a huge 4-finger ice cream crystalline eggshell head that holds retention forever, leaving chunky lace. The nose is of prunes and effervescent malts. An upfront tartness edges linearly into semi-sweet/dark chocolates in the mid-palate, with tart citrusy esters and alcohol warmth (re)introduced in the close. Warming the palate is a tart sweet ’n sour finish. This is a wonderful brew, very complex and well-balanced. There is a mixture of Granny Smith apples, fresh cherries, early picked grapes, and vinous notes all throughout the pull, balanced with a dry-roasted effervescence. The mouthfeel is sturdy with extremely lively "tingling" carbonation levels. Great job, and only develops further as it warms. Beautiful offering..... Prost!

Cloudy, murky dark orangeish brown with a massive tan head. The aroma was full of licorice, toasted caramel, sweet alcohol, and some earthy tones. The flavor was very sweet...licorice, alcohol, earthy character...with a wicked peppery sting at the end. Very bubbly feel...more so than I like.

Interesting beer. Aroma and appearance are exceptional, with a huge sticky head that lasts until the end. Has an initial cotton candy flavor that melds with a sour cherry fruitiness and sweet malt backdrop. Alcohol is apparent and fades in and out and never really overides any of the flavors. A unique and well made brew. The label is a hoot as well. These guys must smoke crack in their spare time.

Bottle from Utobeer. Thick full head with a colour so dark, no light can penetrate it (as proved by holding the glass to the computer monitor - not an exact science). Candy sweet aroma and flavour with notes of liquorice and fruit. Quite satisfying. A belly warmer for the winter.
* Re-rate from Kris Wines, Tufnell Park.. Deep, opaque amber with a nice off white head. Sweet yeast and malt nose, some candy sugar/caramel and banana. Alcohol is apparent in both aroma and taste. Sweet again in the mouth with yeasty orange and liquorice hints, malt in the finish. Quite gassy and has some alcohol warmth on the way down. After being lucky enough to sample many of the reservas of late, I can see how this lays the foundation, it’s one of the top Belgians for me...

Bottle, Beers of Europe. Bottle. Pours a reddy brown colour with a foaming dissipating off-white head. Aroma is sweet and rich-:malty, chocolate, coffee and molasses. Smooth tasting, full bodied flavour with more malt, raisin, and some spiciness. A sophisticated fella this, complex and well worth seeking out.
