Commercial Description:
This robust dark brew has been created using rich Columbian dark roast coffee to celebrate our 10th anniversary in royal fashion. The enticing regal aromas of toffee and licorice lead to the coronation of taste; a palate of malty richness exhibiting chocolate and coffee notes, balanced by the noble and novel Mt. Rainer hop, all topped with a rich creamy crown. This very special offering will warm your soul and lift your spirits. Oh yeah, it also packs a royal kick at 8% alcohol.

Thanks to dmac621 for sending this impressive beer my way. Pours deep brown with a caramel hue and soapy tan head. The aroma has lots of vanilla, cream, roasted dark malt and a hint of coffee - fairly rich. Medium velvety body with semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts with more coffee than the aroma, smooth roasted malt, coffee bitterness and light fruitiness. The finish has a bunch of coffee bitterness and harshness. A very good beer for what it is.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of coffee, dark chocolate, malts, roasting, and a hint of cream. A very pleasant scent. Poured dark brown in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. No lacing. Opaque. Flavor is medium sweet but not bitter. Starts out sweet with flavor of coffee and chocolate; then becomes malty and tastes of alcohol; next it gets kinda cardboard and cereal-like, tasting like a traditional Philly soft pretzel (a little salty to boot); finally, it has a coffee/chocolate finish that is a bit salty. Very complex flavor in this one. Light to medium body. Thin texture. Flat to soft carbonation. Finish is long, sweet, and a little salty. Overall, lots of flavor and aroma, but seriously lacking in body. Still, quite good.

Dark and roasty with a whack of burnt coffee in the nose this is a super BIG porter. Sweet and malty with a long gooey finish, Flying Fish’s Imperial Porter does little to hide its ample alcohol content. Sweet and warming with some linging licorice and a bit of hop bite on the finish, this robust porter is one to drink by itself, as it will likely overpower most meals thrown its way.

12oz bottle. Light aroma of cocoa butter, faint coffee, some chocolate syrup and some very light roast. Flavor is also mostly light, with a nice creamy chocolate syrup flavor and just barely a hint of java. Creamy and moderately thick, and ultimately enjoyable even if it isn’t very complex.

Wow, I can not believe I have rated a Flying Fish beer before this as I have drank many in the past: Thanks Ty for the stoutie rating...a husky brown hue with a fading beige head and some lace. The aroma has notes of walnuts, espresso (doh), milk chocolate, grassy and slightly herbal hops and a quick dash of star anise. The taste starts with a lovely layer of milk chocolate goodness supported by a refreshing brush of noble hop bitterness finishing with a straight shot of coffee boldness. The aftertaste is simply wonderful linger nuts, mocha, and coffee. I love the simple but tasty flavor profile of this brew. The mouth feel is slightly oily and lush but since it is a porter, more thin and watery than it’s big bro. I enjoy this and would like another chance to rate it again. NJ survives the loss of Heavyweight okay it seems.

Bottle courtesy of hopdog. Thanks Steve. A nice, smooth, easy drinking porter w/ coffee undertones and alcohol well hidden.

12 oz. bottle via trade with OhioDad - Pours a brown color with a 1/2 finger thick light tan head. Light spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and cola. Flavor is a mild roasted malt and light coffee. Palate is smooth and not that dry. Light to medium body. A good beer. Thanks Scott.

Courtesy of Boboski. Many thanks, Jason. The aroma is very coffee accented with a dose of chocolate and cream, but the intesnity is not really very high. The body is a soft ruddy brown and holds a rapidly diminishing tan head. Mild roast with lots of coffee/chocolate and a sweet vanilla cream note. Decent and fairly heady with alcohol int he finish. Maybe a bit one dimensional, but I’m a sucker for coffee so I like that dimension.
