Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bottle from Capone’s. Turbid ruby copper pour with 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of funky bretty malt, cabernet, figgy fruit, scotch, some spices, and some female taint wafts. Tastes fruity, richly caramel malty, with citrusy, spicy peppery, caramel malt, cognac, and cherry candi sugary flavor hints. Very complex, and very enjoyable.

Bomber. Batch #4 (bottled Feb 2010, so VERY fresh still). Pours a golden orange with just the right amount of foam. Even to my impaired nose the aroma is orange and citrus cinnamon, with just a dusting of lovely hops. Really a nice aroma here. Very interesting flavor, initially bland, to bitter, to sweet, back to bitter. The interplay of what tastes like pink grapefruit rinds and bitters, mixed with just a shot of vanilla extract and vodka makes for a very interesting brew. The really unique thing is that none of these flavors ever rises to to rule the day, so balance is obviously quite good. I’m impressed!

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA (Batch #3, bottled February 2009). Dark orange pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of Belgian candi sugar, yeast, and light citrus. The flavor is no doubt a dark Belgian ale, however it is smooth and well-balanced. The alcohol is somewhat present. Very drinkable.

Bomber from Party Source (Syracuse), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Batch #3.

App.: Clear deep amber with a fair light tan head. Aroma: Quite sweet and fruity, some dry woodsy tones, dark dried fruits, some esters (tropical fruits mainly), some yeasty notes, a bit rum-like with some brown sugar, some warm spices, ginger. Palate: Medium body with sparse, fine, slightly prickly effervescence. Flav.: More hops than the nose – green, leafy, slightly piney, a little earthy, less of the fruitiness, veers towards an English Strong Ale to my tastes, still some spices and ginger, a bit of earthy caramel/toffee, very little yeast; somewhat sweet with restrained bitterness and a pleasant fruity malt finish.

Beats a lawsuit, I guess.

650 ml bottle. Batch #3. HHOK5. From the US.
Hazy dark reddish brown colour with small off-white head. Lots of floaters. Dark dried fruits and sweet fruity hops in aroma. Sweet fruity American hoppy flavour with alcohol warmth and short hoppy aftertaste. A bit thin.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a light head to top it off. The aroma is sweet and fruity, the yeast can be noted as well. The taste is sweet and rather delicious. I recommend this beer.

Batch #3, Feb 2009. 22oz bottle. Pours a deep amber color with a sparkling but small white head. The lacing on this is too creamy to stick for very long. The nose is banana, clove, caramel, chocolate, white grape, and Belgian yeast. Taste is a creamy blend of Belgian yeast funk, white grape, chocolate, clove, and light raisin tones. A decent beer, but not my favorite Belgian ale.
