Commercial Description:
American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porter’s robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Had this on tap @ THRASH ZONE. Dark body and a fluffy brown head. Not much nose but the taste was really unique. Steering more towards a Irish Stout with a peaty, dry palate and a subtle roasted. Hit the spot on a cold winter’s night.

A: Pours dark brownish black with a khaki colored head. Moderate retention and some nice lace. S: Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and a mineral like sharp almost urine type aroma. T: Milky chocolate, bold roast, fresh coffee, tinges of sweet molasses. Tastes a hell of a lot better than it smells. M: Medium in body, smooth. D: Pretty good flavors in this one.

Bomber served in an English pint. Beautiful pour. Porter black, not dense, with an amber tinge, and a monster light brown head. Great retention and lacing. Nose of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Medium body, decent carbonation. There’s a mild sweetness to the charcoal and dark chocolate along with light bitterness and alcohol on the finish. The big hopping level pays off and adds complexity to a dynamic porter.

From a 22 oz bottle this poured a solid black with a very robust tan head that has great retention and some serious lacing. The nose is of roasted malts with chocolate and coffee aromas.. Very full body and a rich creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is very smooth and full of roasted malts, fermented raisins, ripe fruit ,and nuts. Long dry finish with a light bitter finish. This is really good porter.

Bomber. Pours slightly viscous looking, dark brown with a medium sized, creamy, light brown head that leaves some lace. Smells of roasted malts and sweetness, slight chocolate. Tastes the same, some sour malts as well. Full body, good carbonation. Pretty good.

650 ml bottle. Pours a solid black with a medium tan head that has good retention and some lacing. The aroma is faint with roasted malts and dust. The flavor is robust dark roasted malts, raisins, charcoal and biter walnuts. The palate is full and smooth. The finish is medium in duration and dry. Overall: A decent porter.

22 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark brown with nice dense tan head and lace. Chocolate cocoa and coffee aroma with some fruit and a touch of alcohol. Medium roasted coffee and chocolate with mild dark plummy fruit and assertive, slightly astringent bitter dry finish. This one lack the richness, robustness, and warmth to match the hoppy finish. Also, lacks the hop flavor and doubles up on the astringent bitterness. The body is too thin. Alpha Klaus has shown that the hoppy strong porter can be amazing. Even Heavy Seas Peg Leg is a nice slightly strong hoppy porter, even though the Clipper City folks seem to think it is an imperial stout. I can’t remember the last time I had a porter. I miss this style. I wish there were more good porters out there to try, or at least available where I am.

Bomber poured a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of bitter cfhocolate, coffee, vanilla and light roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of coffee, dark chocolate, light roastiness and a hint of smoke with a smooth lingering chocolate finish.

Black pour with a thin beige head. Aroma- oatmeal, roasted malt, chocolate. Taste-toast, minerals, malts, hops in the finish. Gets more mild and less flavorful as it warms up.
