The aroma has strong licorice scents over a toffee body with brown sugar. This is very soft in the mouth. It tastes of caramel and toffee along with licorice and dates. The finish is anise and other spices. Not bad at all. jbrus (4996), Delft, Netherlands

Poured hazy reddish brown with a moderate creamy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet fruity aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium complex sweet citrus flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good sweet spicy brew. maeib (4873), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2005 Bottled. A dark brown beer with a fairly nice off white head. The aroma is quite sweet with some fruity chocolate notes and a bit of woodiness. The taste is also quite sweet and again chocolate comes through. Perhaps a bit on the thin side but the alcohol is noticeable. A nice beer. Lubiere (4757), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Dark brown ale with an extra thick creamy light moka head. Very nice smooth pruney malt aroma, oranges, licorice, and coffee. In mouth, a sweet candy or demarara sugar, with light hops, a bit of maderized malt, cold coffee, a bit lighter than expected, but very good. BB 17-11-05. Bottle from JM in BC. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2006 Malty aroma; nice color; hint of chocolate; nice bitterness and something of a coffe finish. What’s going on in the middle is a complex mystery. Which is why ales usually beat lagers all to heck. Ernest (4536), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2003 Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is hazy medium orange-brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly
malty (cookie, toasted grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of
orange, raisin, tangerine, and coriander. Flavor is moderately sweet,
moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately
acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively
carbonation. It's more acidic than I like in this context, but the aroma
and appearance are great. Extremely well-hidden alcohol...I didn't
notice any in the aroma or finish. Skinnyviking (4451), Copenhagen, Denmark
