Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 80+ IBU

English: With this special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with combining our usual devotion to a solid malt profile with the addition of American aroma hops. Batch One is an American-inspired Ale characterized by its vast, full body and generous use of hops. In the glass, it has a reddish-brown colour with a coppery glow, and a beige-coloured head leaves a nice lacing behind. For this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry-hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus-like character and impart a solid bitterness to balance the sweet caramel malt.
Bitterness: 80+ IBU

Pours slightly hazy, dark amber with a large, off-white, dense head with fair lacings. Nose of caramel, malt, citrus and grape. Sweet flavour with caramel and malt, grape and citrus. Full bodied. Pleasant bitter finish with alcohol notes.

Nice American barleywine from our Danish friends. Pretty dark red color, pours w/ a nice white head of tiny bubbles which diminishes to a solid ring and leaves tiny spots of lace behind. Big hops fill the nose. Simcoe is one of those hops that can be either really light and fruity or heavy and piny depending on the context. In this beer, the weighty raisin and melon smell of caramel malts push it toward the latter. Heavy, sweet mouthfeel is appropriate for the style w/ maybe a little more carbonation that you’d expect which actually works because I have a feeling this would come off as under-attenuated were it not for that extra tiny bit of fizz. Heavy on woody pine notes w/ an underpinning of cotton candy, raisin and sweet oranges. A spot on take on the style and a good one to boot.

Bottle. Pours very cloudy amber brown with a thin white head. Aroma has a strong alcohol note with notes of pine hops and grainy malt. The flavor is similar with the alcohol being a bit over bearing throughout.

I normally don’t buy Danish beers because they are too expensive but i got this at 20% discount so it was only $7 for 500ml. The appearance is a fat tan head that laces the glass well and a ruby red barleywine color to the beer. If I didn’t know better I’d think i was looking at Old Guardian. The smell is hoppy, sticky, sweet, syrupy, smells like barleywine but nothing overly impressive. The flavor is dead on for the style, very hoppy, bitter, syrupy, grainy, candy, easily passes for an American barleywine, well done since that is what they are shooting for. Given the price I’ll stick to American barleywines made in America. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-01-2010 00:58:49

Notes of fruity apricot, fruity hops, and sweet toffee, caramel, and some dough on the nose. Murky brown orange pour, thin bubbly head. Doughy toasty dry malt flavors with lots of dank hop bitterness. Really strong bitterness that takes the lead on this one. Long lingering resiny dryness. Solid.
