lemonlovr (187), Lockport, Illinois, USA Mar 21, 2004 Not too impressed. Smells like butt - seriously, I don't know what was wrong with it. Appearance is cark with a slight head. Flavor is very light - some chocolate but mostly a slightly-nasty aftertaste that left my mouth begging to make it stop. Also, it seemed pretty thin for a stout, even a sweet one. Don't think I'll try this one again.
gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Nov 2, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark cola brown with very little tan head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is sweet caramel and malts, maybe a touch of oat. Initial flavor is good, though lighter than expected and totally devoid of oats, oatmeal, or anything resembling oatmeal. All sweet toasty matls, caramel, and smoke here. Nothing dark about this stout, it lacks almost any pleasing bitterness to balance out the body and palate. This is very light and almost springy for the style. Tasty, but not what I was expecting... Snojerk321 (1936), San Diego, California, USA Oct 7, 2009 12oz bottle. Deep coffee brown with a big beige / tan head. Aroma is mostly roasted, with some malt sweetness and a light dose of caramel. Flavor is slightly smokey but mostly sweet. Mouth feel is watery and a little buttery. Finish is slightly dry and roasted. topherh (896), Kearney, Missouri, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottled on 01/26/09. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasty malt, coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, a bit of caramel, chocolate, and light hop bitterness. MoDog (914), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2009 12oz bottle (Bottled on 7/16/09) served in an English pint glass. Near black pour with a few mahogany highlights and a thin tan head that quickly settled into a film. Minimal lacing. The aroma had thick caramel, lightly toasted oats, cold coffee, light milk chocolate, and a hint of dark fruits. The flavor had lightly bitter roast, oats, coffee, and some caramel in the background. Medium-bodied mouthfeel. Moderately carbonated. Decent. patrick767 (2018), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 20, 2009 bottle - Very dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is coffee, roast malt, and oats. Flavor is sweet malt with coffee and bitter roast flavors. It’s a good, balanced stout with a medium to full body and a roast finish. zombywoof (357), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Sep 14, 2009 Black and ruby color with a frothy short head. Aroma of pumpernickel, coffee and roasted oats. Dark chocolate, coffee, cascade hops. Full body and slick mouthfeel. I’ve had better oat stouts but this is pretty solid bdigital (586), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 27, 2009 Bottle: Pours a light blackish-brown color with a small tan head. Nose has a bit of raisin, roasted malts and a strange, out-of-place smokiness that seemed to throw it off. Medium-light body, the smokiness returns in the taste but this time compliments the oat and roasted malts quite well. Not a bad brew by any means, though the oats didn’t seem to contribute much of that silky texture that I’m accustomed to with oat-based brews. pete4999 (125), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 20, 2009 Draft at Shaved Duck in St. Louis. Pretty much exactly what you look for in an oatmeal stout...pitch black, nice head. Taste was delicious - roast malts, literally reminds me of breakfast. I could have drank this beer all night, I hope to have it again sometime (or find some around here).
