Appearance is cark with a slight head. Flavor is very light - some chocolate but mostly a slightly-nasty aftertaste that left my mouth begging to make it stop. Also, it seemed pretty thin for a stout, even a sweet one. Don't think I'll try this one again.

It has a sweet malty aroma with nice roasted notes. The taste is full and creamy with a sweet begining and roasted dry finish. This is my favorite Schlafly brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2009 My first beer from Schlafly. Toasted grainy, oat and mild coffee aroma. The beer pours a deep brown color, looks black sitting in the glass, with a big fluffy tan head. Great head retention and thick notches of lace after each sip. The flavors are light; slightly roasty with soft oatmeal, cream, and some underlying chocolate. Despite being a bit mild and light there’s enough going on and it’s clearly well put together. Very drinkable. Good beer. gorditoabd (206), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 2, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark cola brown with very little tan head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is sweet caramel and malts, maybe a touch of oat. Initial flavor is good, though lighter than expected and totally devoid of oats, oatmeal, or anything resembling oatmeal. All sweet toasty matls, caramel, and smoke here. Nothing dark about this stout, it lacks almost any pleasing bitterness to balance out the body and palate. This is very light and almost springy for the style. Tasty, but not what I was expecting... Snojerk321 (2117), San Diego, California, USA
