Commercial Description:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich caramel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry hopped the brew to 45 IBUs, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it Red IPA? That’s your call.

Nice pungent grassy dry-hopped nose, a bit of caramel and cedar wood notes as well, similar flavor, very dry, sharp, pungent and fresh hops, but also a bit more of a caramel chewiness. Mostly just an aggressive and bitter IPA, but overall very drinkable and well-made. Not as outstanding as their West Coast IPA but that’s a tough one to match.

Fresh on draught at Green Flash Brewing Co. (Vista, CA): Pours out hazed ruby red topped with bubbly foam and great lacing. Nose of caramel malts and grapefruit, with the hop aroma primarily earthy. Medium-bodied and quite crisp for a mouthfeel. The flavor presents some caramel sweetness, and citrus hops, but not in the overall balance I expected. It’s given in the name that perhaps the brewers wanted to make a red IPA, and I was just caught off guard. On my second tasting, I found it to be a lot more enjoyable. Drinkability: Red IPA. Pairing: Grilled chicken tacos. Rebuy: Definitely to rerate. #328 on 08032010, DG.

I saw "red" in the name and assumed that the malt would dominate, but what I found was a forward beer that had an aggressive hop addition to balance out the sweet malty profile. Big aroma of pine trees and grapefruit rind. Tastes sweet with some subtle smoky notes from the darker malt in the beer. Finishes with a bitter bite. I could swear I saw a green tint to the thick frothy head. Delicious!

Pours a cherry bomb red. Smells of hops and pine notes infused with a malty overtone. Hit to the palate is ipaish very ipaish. Very good but is it truely an amber. Im looking for the toasted malts but don’t taste them but its still a good ale. A little too much chalk on the tail end but altogether good. You done well green flash

Pours a deep, dark red...thick, nearly opaque. Aroma screams IPA, all hoppy sweetness, very enticing. Palate shot is bitter, resinous hops, which bite just right. Smooths out nicely yet at the same time remains full and robust. Sweet, but not too sweet. Green Flash really knows how to brew a hoppy, delicious beer. Can’t wait to try their imperial.

12oz bottle from Gabriels. Pours a dark amber body with a craggy, off-white sticky head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is citrus hops and some malty sweetness. A bit of caramel also. Flavor is citrus hops, floral hops, medium malty sweetness, citrus hops and caramel/toffee sweetness. A very nice lingering, pace-changing bitter finish. Medium body and mouthfeel. Red IPA? Much hoppier than other "amber ales," but in a good way. Me likey.

A Sim rate (bottle at Lord Hobo pre-EBF event): Aroma of clear, sweet, bitter hops. Bitter, such bitter hops. Fresh and straight off the fields. Bitter, tsjeesus, that’s bitter hops in the flavour with an aftertaste that screams, hey, I’ve been grown in a greenhouse. Nice.
