This has to be sniffed to be believed. The chocolate aroma is insane. The flavour is all chocolate up front, but the finish delivers darkly roasted malt character and a moderate bitterness that I thought balanced nicely, otherwise this could become a sickeningly sweet ordeal. These guys are frigging geniuses. Cybercat (912), Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Pours a dark, opaque, chocolaty brown with a thick tan head. Rich aroma is chocolaty and has just a hint of smoke or roast coffee. Flavor is mainly of unsweetened chocolate and has coffee, hoppy and nutty hints; and is slightly bitter. Silky smooth texture leaves a nice aftertaste of unsweet chocolate. unibaren (145), 8000 Århus C, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 8, 2006 Aroma: Some vanilla, truffles and lots of milky chocolate. Colour is pitch black, the head is creamy, long lasting and light brown in colour with nice lacings. Taste is dry, slightly roasted and earthy oats and a powerful taste of dark, bitter chocolate and of cause some hops to balance the sweetness. The body is medium to full and the aftertaste long-lasting. This description is pretty close to the commercial description but it is nevertheless a superb chocolate stout. kfarrnd (112), Oldsmar, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2005 22 oz. bottle. Poured out like motor oil, thick and blackish-brown with a thick light brown head. The aroma was heavy with chocolate and roasted malt with some hints of coffee. The initial flavor is bitter hops, roasted malt and burnt toast. That later gives way to some caramel and a nice, rich milk chocolate finish. Nice and full on the palate. This is the best I’ve tasted thus far from Rogue, outstanding on a warm Thanksgiving afternoon here in Tampa. SB (318), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

This is a perfect sweet stout and exactly what I would expect! Pours jet black, 1/2 inch tan head that lasted intil the last drop. Aroma is of strong coffee and chocolate. Taste is sweet and the alcohol is hidden by the strong chocolate tones of this stout. This is a great offering from Rogue and I will be enjoying more! turg (156), Quebec, Canada

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2006 This is an exceptional beer. It has a very chocolate flavor and is a bit on the bitter side as well. This was pretty complex and tasted a bit like a chocolate wafer bar of sorts... Very dark in color, pretty much black. It has a decent size head which disappeared pretty quickly. It had a lot going for it. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2005 650 mL brown bottle purchased from Armanetti’s, Mundelein, IL. Black hued stout having a small diminishing light brown head with good lacing. Succulent aroma bouquet of chocolate, espresso and raisin. Full bodied with smooth creamy texture that starts with sharpness and slight sweet roasted malt with hints of dark chocolate, espresso and raisin. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness. An excellent chocolate stout, one of the best that I’ve tried so far.
