Ipswich likes to brew 'em bitter. Make that dark and bitter. This beer is almost coffeeish and reminiscent of something Brooklyn Brewing would come up with. Rather thin, which makes it a Nut Brown Ale and not a Porter. Roasty hops permeate throughout. Quality brew.

12 oz bottle (thanks to Pam). Pretty basic here, and definitely more of an English amber/brown. Some nutty caramels, English grains and grass, with a faint citrus in the background on the nose. A very light bubbling off-white head on the pour, some carbonation, a lighter body, and dark amber in color. It starts off fairly creamy and malty, then blends into a crisper grassy bitter that finishes a bit off with some copper. Notes also of malted English amber grain malts, caramel, nut, and some slightly acidic citrus. So overall, not too exciting with a few weak points. Very ok.

(bottle) Hazy mahogany body and a big, stiff tan head. Powerful aroma of rich, lightly roasted, sweet chocolate malt. The strong hop aroma is floral and grass/pine. Flavor is earthy but sweet with caramel and slightly smoky. A slight tartness near the back. Body is slightly thin, and soft.

Bottle poured a clear brown with a lingering ring of ivory foam. Aromas of carmel, milk chocolate and a hint of nuts. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel, bakers cocoa and light nuttiness with a crisp dry lingering malty finish.

12oz bottle. A good example of the style though nothing spectacular here. Has a nice malty caramel taste and is very drinkable.

12oz bottle–pours a rich light tan head that laces and brown with orange color. Aroma is chocolate-medium malt, earthy, roasty. Taste is chocolate/molasses-medium malt, roasty, secondary earthy/sharp (not quite coppery) hops bite. Medium/full body.

Dark brown color...almost opaque. Thick, creamy head. Malty aroma, with a faint nuttiness. Pretty transparent malt flavor up front...mouthfeel has a slight crispness. Noticeable hop presence quickly blends into the back. Finish has a long hop tang. Though pretty good overall, this brew is not very typical for a brown ale...somewhat heavy on the hops, while light on the malt.

Bottle. Complements of my buddy’s Beer Of The Month Club. Pours a murky brown in color. It has a lighly nutty aroma mixed with a sugary sweetness. It has a bit of a nutty start, fading into a slightly laid back sweet caramely finish.
