2006 vintage. my first vintage of this stuff, i am hanging on to a couple bombers to try next to next years batch... This year it was overwhelming in the vanilla category, very sweet, poured an amber color with medium head... this is a regional cult favorite, one of the hardest seasonal beers to find in Asheville, a very popular cult beer, I like the mystique more, but hey, isn’t that half of the attraction....

Courtesy of captaincougar. Pours mahogany with a thin white ring of bubbles. Smells of spices, caramel, sugar and sweet malt. Taste is of caramel, citrus, spices and some earthy hints. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is of citrus.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and MDS, Harry’s bottle. Dark ruby red, big dough like off white head. Lots of sweet bready notes in aroma - caramel cake like. Taste - lots of vanilla, spice, candy. Interesting. Like Anchor’s Special Ale a bit. Didn’t quite work for me, but big kudos on an interesting beer.

Brick store on tap. Brown with a creamy head. Looks thicker than it tastes. Some elements of a nice brown ale, caramel and toffee flavors, but a different finish. A spicey finish.

Bottle shared by bgburdman: Pours a deep amber in color with an off white head. Aroma, yeasty, some caramel, grassy notes. Flavor, some spices, caramel, chocolate, some earthy notes. Not bad.

On tap at the Mello Mushroom in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Appears dark ruby with no or little foam. Aroma reminds me of vanilla soda, hops and malts. Flavor was sugary, like root beer. Very smooth, another great beer from NC brewery.

Bottle. Pours a brown-copper body with a small white head. The aroma is heavily cookiesh with lots of spice (namely root/sarsaparilla). Thinnish, calm body with all of that spice flavour that was in the aroma.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with mds and tupalev, my bottle via trade with TURDFERGUSON. Poured fairly deep coppery orange, average head. Sweet aroma, vanilla, root beer, spice, sweet malt, a bit of perfumey hops - a little artificial but pleasing. Even more vanilla in the taste, a little mild bitterness in the finish - average body, a little still, a hint of astringency - nice, softly spicy.
